"Island of Fire" is a Taiwanese movie that looks like a Hong Kong movie (which region the movie is, depends on where the production region is, and where the investors and producers are). The film is star-studded, starring Liang Jiahui, Sammo Hung, Andy Lau, Jackie Chan and Ke Junxiong. Such a violent prison crime-themed film does not look like it was made by Zhu Yanping, the director of entertainment comedy films such as "Little Forest Kid", "New Oolong Courtyard" and "Chinese Dragon". The film reveals the dark side of the "small society" of the prison by presenting the fact that senior police officers are breaking the law. Different from the American film "The Shawshank Redemption", which is also a prison theme, "Island of Fire" focuses on crime themes and action scenes, rather than exploring human nature and freedom, and the commercial purpose is more prominent. Although "Fire Island" has assembled a number of heavyweight stars, there are many obvious loopholes in the narrative, which wastes star resources to some extent. There are too many movie stars, and the role assigned to each person is not enough, which is not conducive to the fullness and three-dimensional shape of the characters. Fortunately, the performances of the leading actors are so remarkable that they are still talked about by fans after the film was released for many years.
