The plot of "World War" is also simple and old-fashioned. Its poster text sums it up in one sentence: "The last war of mankind was not initiated by mankind." Yes, it is aliens again. One more element that was too much to be photographed. Even a director who is accustomed to operating commercial blockbusters like Stephen Spielberg may not be able to produce anything new, right?
But after watching it, I really blamed it for liking this movie. Without him, it just proves my vulgarity again.
The biggest reason for my appetite is simply because it does not have a so-called "personal hero" to save the world. All people, including Tom Cruise, are just civilians, facing irresistible aliens, they can only run around like ants just to save their humble lives. The whole movie is actually watching how Tom flees with his delicate daughter and rebellious son. Thrilling, embarrassed, not a bit heroic. Even when his son wanted to join the army on the front lines to fight the aliens, instead of pretending to be brazen to support him, he obstructed him in every possible way, thinking that his son would commit suicide and was meaningless. As an ordinary father without any superpowers, the only thing he has to do is to desperately save the lives of his two children. Very selfish, isn't it? But people are so small, and at such a desperate time, the world is nothing but family to you. Without them, what is the meaning of the world even if it exists? So in a world without superheroes, people can only take care of themselves. This is the most real place in this sci-fi movie.
This kind of movie, special effects are the selling point. At the beginning of the movie, the alien killing machine suddenly drilled out of the ground, using lasers to instantly turn civilians into dust. Although it is quite exciting, it is not astonishing. No way, our appetite for stunts has been boosted by previous blockbusters, and it is difficult to scream casually. Even so, this movie gave me an unusual sense of horror, and I always subconsciously substitute myself in it, as if I had experienced it myself. This is not about special effects, but the narrative perspective of the movie. It is no longer the angle of omniscience and omnipotence, but from the eyes of ordinary people to see the outbreak of the entire war. From curiosity, to doubt, to horror, to despair, to numbness, all the feelings experienced by ordinary people are presented in detail. How can it not melt into it?
Suddenly remembered an episode in the process of watching a movie. When he saw that Brother Tom had avoided a catastrophe by hiding a pair of children in the basement, a little girl sitting behind us suddenly said to her parents: "It turns out that it is great to have a basement. Oh, we don't have one. The basement, what should we do? Aren't we dead?!" The speech was full of anxiety and panic. Of course we laughed to death. Watching movies is to have this kind of unexpected pleasure.
The ending of the film was indeed unexpected. At that time, I would also think: This is the end? Yes, that's it. So many people are very dissatisfied with the ending and think it is anticlimactic. I think it's a bit of black humor, and things in the world are sometimes so absurd and ironic. Many sophisticated crimes are also destroyed in a very inconspicuous detail. Of course, you can also think that I am far-fetched.
Tom's performance was beyond my expectations, because the Mission Impossible II a few years ago made me think he was just a man who has been playing handsome all his life. But this time, from the beginning I didn't look like a 16-year-old boy's father. In the end, I completely believed that he was a father. I finally believed that he was a little good in addition to being handsome. In addition, the little girl who plays his daughter is good at screaming and showing horrified eyes, but she can take more horror movies.
PS I read the newspaper that day and said that this film is the only foreign film that has not been cut by scissors. Now that I think about it, it seems so.
