"April Story" is a typical Iwai Shunji movie. There are not many twists and turns of the storyline (of course, the story of "Love Letter" is relatively novel). I think Shunji Iwai is not a director who puts a lot of effort into the development of the story. His film stories are always so friendly and easy to evoke memories of childhood or past years, and it seems to really combine life and art.
The storyline of "April Story" is no longer deep. I clearly remember the beautiful girl who was carrying a schoolbag, wearing a long skirt and white sneakers, riding a bicycle. She sometimes let her long hair fall naturally, sometimes it was lightly tied up. Her untouched, natural beauty is very similar to the overall feel of the film.
