As an annual film event, the Oscar has become a hot spot yesterday. Whether it is watching lively passersby or film fans who care about awards, everyone has eaten a lot of melons.

The heaviest Best Picture Award went to "Green Book", which also slapped a wave of "Rome" supporters (such as me) in the face. I have guessed wrong for three consecutive years at Bestpicture. I heard "Green Book" "Book" almost didn't drop the headphones...

With a grudge against the academy , I still want to analyze the change in the Oscar wind direction behind the "Green Book" winning the championship, so that I can continue to predict (dú) (nǎi) next year.

In yesterday’s Poisonous Milk, I also mentioned that among the 8 shortlisted films, "Rome" is definitely not the most pleasing one. Compared to "Rome", "Green Book" is more interesting, lighter, and more enjoyable. Warmth is therefore more suitable for the tastes of ordinary audiences.

If it's just my personal preference, I would definitely choose "Green Book".

But "Rome" is indeed the most memorable one in it. It is worth watching over and over again, and every time I rewatch it, I can get a new experience.

The best director winner Alfonso Cuarón relied on his strong love for nursing mothers, mothers, and Mexico to show his best level of his career, bringing a strong comprehensiveness to "Rome" and several other films. The film’s incomparable audiovisual language has become the most popular critic in the review session.

In terms of data, in the film review website "Rotten Tomatoes", the popcorn index of "Green Book" representing audience preference is as high as 93%, which is much higher than "Rome"'s 72%.

However, in the freshness that represents the preference of film critics, "Rome" got rid of the "Green Book" with a score of 340 reviews and 325 freshness.

This gap is even more obvious in the film review website "Metacritic" that integrates national media. "Rome", which was marked as a must-see, scored 96 points, while "Green Book"'s 69 points paled in comparison.

There is another message that is why film critics are more optimistic about "Rome", and that is the elite and niche tendency that the college has maintained in recent years.

In 2018, the dark horse "Three Billboards", which was deeply loved by audiences and film critics, finally repeated the same mistakes as the Golden Lion Award and fell at the foot of "The Shape of Water".

Mexican genius director Gilmo del Toro, with an adult fairy tale that coexists with cruelty and beauty, and his extremely personalized image style, conquered the heart of the academy and took away the little golden man.

In 2017, "Moonlight Boy" finally won in Century Oolong. While "Wang Kar Wai fan" Barry Jenkins paid tribute to Wong Kar Wai with ethereal images and ambiguous emotions, he snatched the Golden Man from his peer director Damien Chazele .

The result attracted a lot of doubts at the time, and it can be called the most scolded since "Brokeback Mountain".

In 2016, it won the British Film Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards, as well as the "Wild Hunter" buff blessed by the actor Xiao Li, and the "Mad Max 4" which has a reputation among the audience.

In the end, "Focus" won the favor of Xiao Jinren with its calm narration, restrained lens and great courage to face social problems.

In 2015, director Richard Linklater’s "Zero Negative" masterpiece of "Love Is" trilogy, Rotten Tomatoes 97%, Metacritic 100 points "Boyhood", lost to Mexican director Alessandro · "Birdman" by Gonzalez Inarito.

Based on the above information, the odds of "Rome" are much higher, but in the end it was "Green Book" that won the duopoly, and slapped a crowd of film critics in the face.

The most unexpected thing about this result is that in recent years, Oscars have been showing their elite, professional, and niche tastes in the best picture awards, but this year, they turned out to be uncharacteristically. They voted for the best picture, although it is very beautiful. I always feel that the "Green Book" is missing a little bit of the prize.

From one detail, we can see how "academic" this year's best film selection is.

In recent years, every time the best film is announced, it has been questioned by public opinion, all kinds of scolding, and every year I can hear "I was completely disappointed in Oscar when I saw the best film for XX." Speech.

But this year, most of the people who won the championship with the "Green Book" were praise and flattery, and there were very few doubts.

Even when the "Green Book" encountered controversy, the comments were full of support and criticism of the doubters.

Regardless of the future Oscar's wind direction, it has become a fact that the popular taste has won this year, which will make the situation next year even more confusing.

But even so, next year will continue to be the best film of poisoned milk, I don't believe I can guess wrong for four consecutive years!

The three films that I successfully sucked to death...

Green Book quotes

  • Dr. Don Shirley: Yes, I live in a castle, Tony! Alone. And rich white people pay me to play piano for them because it makes them feel cultured. But as soon as I step off that stage, I go right back to being just another nigger to them. Because that is their true culture. And I suffer that slight alone, because I'm not accepted by my own people 'cause I'm not like them, either. So, if I'm not black enough and if I'm not white enough and if I'm not man enough, then tell me, Tony, what am I?

  • Tony Lip: [Writing a letter to his wife] Dear Dolores, how are you? I am fine. I'm eating real good. Hamburgers mostly. So don't worry about me not eating good. I saw Dr. Shirley play the piano tonight. He don't play like a colored guy. He plays like Liberace, but better. He's like a genius, I think. When I look at him in the rear-view mirror, I can tell he's always thinking about stuff in his head. I guess that's what geniuses do. But it don't look fun to be that smart. I miss you very, very much.
