The recommendation of a friend is correct. If you ask me, is this movie horrible? I might say that it is scary and not scary. Not horrible means that there are not many terrifying scenes, no ghosts and hideous features, no endless despair and darkness. But horror refers to the chilling creeps that I think of after the film is over.
The story frame is very old-fashioned, the wild hut haunted incident, these routines appear from time to time in the few domestic horror movies I have watched. But the director of the soul-calling is very thoughtful, and the story is still wonderful.
Roger and his wife moved to a large villa in the suburbs with their five children. There used to be a desperate woman's house, and her house was taken away. So she killed her child to sacrifice to the devil, and finally hanged on the big tree in front of the door to gain the ability to curse the person who occupied the house. The couple and their children encountered many terrible things there. Music boxes that sounded automatically, clocks stopped, applause in the cabinet, the figure of the dead boy seen by the little daughter... Until the end, the exorcist couple and the protagonist’s family Work together to drive away the ghost.
There are not a few straightforward visual impact images in the whole movie, and more are left blank rendering to leave endless imagination space for the audience. I remember the three most profound shots:
1: When the hostess took her clothes, the sheets were blown away by the wind. I don't know what was hanging on, and a human figure was gradually outlined, and the sheets slowly ooze red. The hostess's expression of panic, the music stopped abruptly. The crow flew by, and everything fell silent.
2: The hostess played hide-and-seek with the child. When she went to find the child, she heard the clap in the closet. So she happily said "finally found you", opened the cabinet, but there was no one inside.
3: When the little daughter was sleeping, she suddenly felt that someone was pulling her leg. She was awakened. She watched the power in the void drag her leg to pull her out of bed! This scene made me afraid to expose my legs when I slept at night for a long time, so I had to cover it with something.
There are no hideous ghosts in these three pictures, but when you see it, there will be a chill coming out of the soles of your feet. What will be the next picture? Imagining brain supplementation will make people remember more deeply, and these pictures are the most terrifying.
The climax of the film is that the exorcist couple came to the hut to exorcise the demon. The little girl was dragged around the house by the ghost, and the family hurriedly rescued her. The hostess is possessed by the devil and wants to kill her child, but she has always used a strong will to fight the devil. The exorcist couple's mutual support in the basement, the warmth in the danger does not need words to describe, one eye and one movement knows that they trust each other.
No matter how terrible the ghost is, all the audience will know at that time that the exorcists will win this fight. The deepest fear is certainly scary, but the warmth of human nature makes everyone confident. This is not a routine arrangement of "the evil is invincible", but it is a natural desire to keep the devil away from beautiful children, and to let the exorcist couple live together after the wind, frost, snow and rain, so that they can live together for a lifetime. This movie does not make everyone scared in a horrible atmosphere.
