Magic is the means, reality is the fundamental

Those who call the "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" only magicalism rather than magical realism are obviously underestimating Tolkien's novels and Peter Jackson's movies. I didn't read the novel, and the movie is not the best I think, but it seduce me into the theater the most times (5 times), and it is also the one I watched the most times (11 times). It reveals the many facets of human nature through deification, demonization, and witchcraft, and reveals the ultimate evil of human nature-the world war (fascist camp and allied forces). I think it virtualizes a world and presents a brand-new form, but there is no new world view output, and the rules and order have not changed. What is it if this is not realism? Magic is the means, and reality is the fundamental.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King quotes

  • Pippin: [singing to Denethor as Faramir leads the charge] Home is behind, the world ahead... and there are many paths to tread... Through shadow... To the edge of night... Until the stars are all alight... Mist and shadow, cloud and shade... All shall fade... all... shall... fade.

  • Denethor: My sons are spent. My line has ended. Rohan has deserted us. Theoden's betrayed me. Abandon your posts! Flee, flee for your lives!

[He turns around, and Gandalf knocks him out with his staff]

    Gandalf: Prepare for battle!
