The death of Tom.
In the darkness, the young man's shining eyes looked at the pretending warden, hopefully thinking that he could save his mentor. When the warden asked if he could answer honestly in front of the judge, Tom answered without hesitation: yes, sir. just give me that chance. The warden laughed, patted Tom on the shoulder and stomped out the cigarette butt with his foot. Give a look at the killer in the dark.
The gunfire rang.
The young man named Tom died just like that. Like Andy, he was full of hope.
He has one year remaining in prison. He has a beautiful wife and lovely daughter outside, and he has just passed the examination of the Board of Education. Before coming to Shawshank, he was a little gangster who had nothing to do, doing petty theft, but his heart was not bad and his character was lively. "Everyone likes him." Reid said. When he came to Shawshank, he met Andy. For the sake of his wife and daughter, Tom decided to start studying. He became a teacher and studied very hard.
Unlike Rhett and the others who were institutionalized by this prison, Tom is a person with hope. His hope is simpler and more direct than Andy, and more exposed. With a short sentence and a young age, he can rehabilitate and re-enter the broad road at any time.
Although he was muddled in the past, he never had the idea of reforming. Instead, he has been in various prisons since he was 13 years old. But when he met Andy, everything was different.
But also because he knew Andy, everything was different.
Tragedy is to tear up beautiful things for others to see. I think the creator of this story knows this truth well.
Tom represents all the beautiful things. Optimism, truth, hope, youth, beauty.
But was stifled mercilessly by the darkness.
In this scene, the gunman in the dark, the indifferent warden, and the young man lying on the ground.
Darkness defeated the light, despair covered hope. It's cold to the bottom.
