Raymercury [Hg(ONC)2] is a kind of white or gray crystal, and it is the earliest explosive. High sensitivity to flame, needle stick and impact. For more than a hundred years, it has been an important component of detonator charge and flash hider firing charge. However, thimerosal has relatively poor stability and is highly toxic. The firing charge containing thimerosal is easy to corrode the bore and the cartridge, and it has been replaced by lead azide and other detonators.
Mercury fulminate can be decomposed in contact with hydrochloric acid or nitric acid, and exploded in contact with sulfuric acid. When dry, it is extremely sensitive to vibration, impact and friction, and is easily detonated by sparks and flames. Or it can be pressurized and molded under very high pressure, and it can react with copper to generate alkaline thunderbolt copper, which makes it more sensitive.
Mercury fulminate is stable at room temperature, above 40 to 50 degrees. Long-term inventory is easy to decompose. It is easy to explode when the temperature is higher than 100 degrees. Lightning mercury is more sensitive to impact, friction, flames and electric sparks. The five-minute fire point is 170 to 180 degrees, and the five-second fire point is 210 degrees.
