Is this Marvel’s first good villain?

One thing that has always been criticized for Marvel’s super-British movies is the lack of a sufficiently good villain, which causes the dramatic conflicts to be not strong enough. This time the Panthers has clearly improved, but is this progress enough? I really want to discuss with you, the following are spoilers, be careful

First of all, even in the negative reviews on the homepage, we can see the content of sympathy for the villain. I think this is the main manifestation of the progress of the villain: it can make people have a certain sense of sympathy, and then they are willing to understand the villain. .

He lost his father when he was young, and was abandoned by the tribe. He relied on his own hard work to obtain a place, but he suffered too much in the war. The only one who supported him all the way was a fairy tale left by his father. In the end, he relied on unyielding perseverance. Honestly, he won back the rights he was entitled to have. Looking at it from another angle, it is completely a touching and inspirational revenge story. From this point of view, the villain this time is not linear and single, but rather complex and three-dimensional. The scene where he meets the father's spirit is really good and very touching. But understanding a person does not mean that you have to agree with everything he does, so you can sympathize with him, understand him, but still stop him. Such a three-dimensional villain makes this work not as serious as the fairy tale feeling of the previous Marvel Super British movies.

So has he completely gotten rid of the problem of facial makeup?

no. There is a certain degree of fragmentation in the shaping of the front and back parts of this villain. In the early stage, he was courageous and strategic, firm-willed, and cruel but upright. However, after sitting on the throne, he quickly began to make a face. It is understandable that his mind has been destroyed abnormally, and some extreme methods and ideas of governing the country have been produced, but he cannot accept the rapid loss of his kingship. Burning the herb forest, facing the black panthers that came again, they chose to bully more and less. Instead of hitting the black panthers, they chased two weak women and took hostages. Various performances made him quickly fall from a King of Vengeance to a weak villain in the 2nd and 3rd line.

And the biggest advantage of this villain is that he can beat the weakness of Panthers, that is, Panthers hesitates to help the outside world. Panthers dare not look directly at the problems of the outside world, but he is precisely these external disasters. His presence forced the Panthers to realize that the method of building a wall was unworkable, thereby forcing the Panthers to make the decision to open up the frontier, and ultimately promoted the Panthers to grow into a more mature king.

It is simply a textbook-like excellent villain, who beats weaknesses and forces heroes to face weaknesses, overcome weaknesses, and grow.

But such an excellent persona was wasted by the rough plot design in the latter half. "Helping the outside world" was secretly replaced with "conquering the outside world", and even developed into an indiscriminate massacre (Shanghai provokes you). This basically avoids the weakness of the Panthers, and focuses on the areas that are not painful or itchy. .

According to my expectation, the cousin should first use Wakanda's army to liberate some of the surrounding countries that have been tortured by tyranny. Then in the process, the means gradually became radical, from saving children at the beginning to evolving to asking children to take up arms and go to the battlefield. At this time, the Panthers began to realize that the country could not be handed over to him, stood up to stop him, and through some episodes in the process of preventing him, he made a determination to open the border. With this determination, he strengthened his will and was no longer confused, thus winning the final battle.

There is a detail that many people didn't notice. When the two fell in a decisive battle, the Panthers had won, but they couldn't bear to kill them, and they were counter-killed. Here it echoes that the Panthers did not hesitate to kill him in the final battle. But without the description of Panthers overcoming inner hesitation, this response did not shock the audience, and it was not even noticed, which is a pity.

Generally speaking, this time the formation of the villain has made a lot of progress, but the final moment is still awkward, taking a step back, resulting in a somewhat embarrassing plot now. I hope that in future Marvel movies, I can grit my teeth and cross this hurdle to create a classic villain comparable to Darth Vader and the Joker.

Black Panther quotes

  • T'Challa: Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows. We can not. We must not. We will work to be an example of how we, as brothers and sisters on this earth, should treat each other. Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another, as if we were one single tribe.

  • Everett K. Ross: [after he wakes up] Is this Wakanda?

    Shuri: [sarcastically] No, it's Kansas.
