I started looking forward to "Blade Runner 2049" very early, and once considered going to Hong Kong to watch the world premiere on October 5.
Various coincidences failed to make the trip in early October. In addition, the mainland suddenly raised the file to October 27, and chose to watch the mainland 2D version.
Since its release in Hong Kong and North America on October 5, online reviews have repeatedly stated that this sequel expands and extends the theme of the original, and some netizens even said that this sequel is better than the original.
However, on the first day of the show, after watching the 2D version in Guangzhou, I was very disappointed-from the core of the film to the so-called theme extension, there was nothing new, and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack was extremely impressive. In addition, Roger Dickinson’s so-called superb photography is indeed very good. On the one hand, he uses zoom and light and shadow so brilliantly; on the other hand, it highlights that photography has ruined the inherent tension of science fiction films to some extent.
Below I want to talk about the shortcomings of "Blade Runner 2049" in terms of core, storyline, and text.
1. Disadvantages of "Blade Runner 2049"
The first is the old kernel.
The main core of "Blade Runner 2049" is not "the awakened copy of feelings and self-awareness is more human than human beings", but "the non-dual opposition between the virtual and the real".
It is a pity that the two cores of human nature and reality have been discussed in other science fiction movies, and the textual temperament is more aura than this film.
For example, the previous films "Blade Runner" and "The Matrix Trilogy" all use film language to express the thinking of "Zhuang Shengxiao dreams of a butterfly", but this film only gives the answer straightforwardly-the virtual is better than the real More elegant (When Joi talked about human beings composed of four elements of ATGC and AR only composed of two elements of 01, K said "half as much, but twice elegant" as a tribute to the previous work, but the text hides a kind Terrible thoughts, I'll mention them later).
The main line of "Blade Runner 2049" is that the replicator Detective K is ordered to find the baby born by the replicator Rachel. In addition, the relationship between K and his VR girlfriend, and the relationship between K and Deckard are two other side lines. All the story lines are well completed, but there are many unreasonable details in the details.
Unreasonable 1. When K went to the orphanage, Dean Hei Xin squeezed the orphans into labor for a while. The obvious message that can be conveyed in this paragraph is that people living at the bottom are biting each other; with nearly a thousand people. To break up the narrative, the hidden message that can be conveyed is probably the director saying: "Look, I'm so good, and the scheduling is good."
Unreasonable 2. Wallace is an ambitious businessman who wants to colonize the universe, but because of insufficient productivity, it is necessary for replicators to reproduce themselves to reach scale and colonize more planets. This idea is expressed through his cruel killing of a clone who does not have a womb that can give birth to life. Although we have made some spectacles with the explanation in the language of the film, it still fails to clarify the logic and is not self-consistent-doesn't it require a large number of copies, why kill a copy that has just been made? Luv will follow his instructions, why use this method?
Unreasonable 3. Why must Wallace take Deckard to the colony planet to interrogate the whereabouts of the cloned child? Digging and not filling the pits really copied the shortcomings of Mr. Ridley Scott in "Prometheus."
Unreasonable 4. According to the picture, when Luv went to LAPD to fetch Rachel’s bones for the first time, no one found it. He was discovered and killed Keke. As a result, the appearance of Keke's death revealed that he was also a clone; second This time I went to LAPD and killed Joshi. Joshi knew that Luv was a copy of Rachel who took Rachel’s bones and killed Keke. Why didn’t he deal with it early and let Rachel come directly and kill her? Why is no one at LAPD helping Keke and Joshi?
Unreasonable 5. The first 15 minutes of the film focused on K as a copyist and was degraded and insultingly called Skin Job by others, which is more blunt than the way the biochemical man David was looked down upon in "Prometheus", and hurried in a hurry. Finish talking at the beginning of the film.
Unreasonable 6. The settings of AR person Joi in the film cannot be operated by herself. How did she find the girl standing on the street and come to the house?
Although there are many unreasonable points, the biggest problem with the film is actually the textual problem.
First of all, returning to what I mentioned earlier, when AR man Joi saw the elements of human genes, he lamented that his composition was only half that of humans. K said:
"Half as much,but twice elegant"
This actually echoes the words "Father of the Copy" Tyrell said about Roy the Copy in the previous game.
"The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long"
At that time, Roy had just beaten Tyrell by playing chess, and before K said of Joi, Joi was just a sweetheart of K, thinking that he only loved him wholeheartedly.
Are the values behind this extremely scary? ——Because of absolute obedience and selfless love for K, Joi is much more elegant than humans, and virtual is much more elegant than reality.
After clarifying this question, how much do you still complain about the "love" that Joi and K are completely out of balance in the end?
In addition, Spike Jones’s "She" is much better than this film in terms of discussing falling in love with artificial intelligence.
Another point of the text problem lies in the reproduction of people who want to resist and revolution. The reason for hiding Rachel’s child is that she was born by being copied.
Since the purpose of copying people's revolution and rebelling against human beings is to control their own destiny, what is the logic that it is determined that Rachel's child will be their leader in the future?
Is fertility worship?
In the end, the revolutionary army actually wanted to kill Deckard who was captured by Wallace for their own safety.
Judging from the facial expressions of the copyist revolutionary army, the director is conveying the negative aspects of this group-they are just as numb and stupid as human beings.
Just because K discovered that he was a copycat and killed Morton, who was protecting Rachel's children, he agreed to the revolutionary army to kill Deckard. This motivation is too difficult to establish.
Then on the way, I saw Joi's ad soliciting him, and after realizing that even a copyist can have real feelings, he immediately turned to help K.
Although there is cause and effect in this period, the logic is rigid and the explanation is vague, and it can't stand scrutiny at all.
2. "Blade Runner 2049" pays tribute to the previous work
The film directly quoted and echoed the previous work too much, and deliberately satisfies the fans of the previous work; and the spirit and core have not been changed, making this film unable to surpass the previous work.
A truly excellent sequel is a work that has the same basic IP attributes as "Alien 2", but has completely changed from genre to style.
Basically, the film has pre-production audio, echoing lines, scenes and characters once every 20 minutes. It has to be said that the main creators are not confident enough in IP and the result of their own lack of creativity.
3. "Look! How touching, cry!"
I named this afterthought "I saw some breath of "exquisite egoism"". In addition to referring to the essence of K's deep feelings for Joi, the director used the exquisite lens language to rudely "weep". Focus on the moment.
The first time the point was drawn was when K took out the memory Trojan horse from the bag. It took nearly a minute to close up K's hand, and at the same time, Hans Zimmer's soundtrack played out the emotions.
The second stroke is when K is about to die, feeling the pain of the body and the gentleness of the snowflakes. It also took more than a minute to add Hans Zimmer's soundtrack, taking turns in mid-range, close-up, close-up, and panorama.
These focus points are like the hard shouting on the street: look at it, it's touching! You are not allowed to enter the next scene without crying!
4. The profound thoughts of the film must not be realized by a few "esoteric" words
Movies have movie language, if you just rely on similar lines in the lines
"Love is to treat him as a stranger for his safety",
"The pain of your life is the result of the sweet memories of the past"...
This kind of chicken soup, which is actually not good, is really better than reading romance novels on the Internet.
At least no one talked about such vague lines in the previous game.
5. Advantages.
In the film directed by Villeneuve, the quality of the last shot is basically not bad.
This film is also the scene where Deckard and his daughter face each other across the window—real snowflakes correspond to virtual snowflakes. The actor Harrison Ford conveyed all the emotional complexities with a single look.
Somehow, I thought of the look in Choi Min-sik's eyes at the end of Park Chan-wook's "Old Boy".
