Shawshank’s Redemption is an immortal movie, a movie that you will never forget after watching it. The movie uses a third-person narration to describe all the things that have happened in Shawshank prison for 20 or 30 years, based on Reid’s vision. It depicts Andy's actions and Shawshank's prison that was redeemed because of him.

The whole movie is full of the shadow of hope, perhaps as Reid said, hope is a terrible thing, especially for them, they are not death row prisoners, so they must abandon any hope to live, from the fear of the high wall at the beginning to Gradually adapting, and finally forming a dependence on the high wall, such a process is actually a process of gradually giving up hope.

There is no hope, they can live here with peace of mind until they die. That's why Thomas couldn't adapt to the outside world after leaving the prison, and then committed suicide. In contrast, Andy embodies another kind of mentality, either busy living or dying, a sentence that Hardy understands Andy's desire for survival and the enthusiasm for hope that has never been extinguished.

The Shawshank Redemption quotes

  • Red: [Narrating] There must be a con like me in every prison in America. I'm the guy who can get if for you; cigarettes, a bag of reefer, if that's your thing, a bottle of brandy to celebrate your kid's high school graduation, damn near anything within reason. Yes sir, I'm a regular Sears and Roebuck.

  • Andy Dufresne: ...or come to think of it, I suppose I could set it up for you. That would save you some money. I'll write down the forms you need, you can pick them up, and I'll prepare them for your signature... nearly free of charge... I'd only ask three beers apiece for my co-workers, if that seems fair. I think a man working outdoors feels more like a man if he can have a bottle of suds. That's only my opinion.
