Chris Gardner (Will Smith), a young black man living in San Francisco, relies on being a salesman to raise his wife and young children. Chris never felt that his life was very happy, and of course it was not very painful. He lived a plain life like thousands of ordinary men in the United States. Until one day, a series of sudden changes let Chris know that it was plain. How precious are days.
First, he lost his job, and the company layoffs made him lose his job. Since then, Chris has suffered a series of major blows. His wife ran away because of the long-term poverty and anger, and even his six-year-old son (Jaden Smith) was taken away with him. Before long, the wife returned her son to Chris. From then on, Chris not only had to face unemployment, but also raised his son independently. Before long, Chris was driven out of the house by the landlord because of long-term rent arrears, and brought his son to the streets. In the next two to three years, the residence of the hard-fought father and son was moved from the cardboard box to the public restroom. Chris is strong in the face of difficulties and always takes part in casual work to make money. At the same time, he also strives to cultivate the spirit of optimism in the face of difficult situations. Although the father and son have a hard life, they can still live happily.
Once, Chris met a man driving a high-end sports car in the parking lot. Chris asked him what job he could do to live such a life. The man told him that he was a stockbroker, and Chris decided to be a stockbroker. Excellent stockbroker, live a good life with his son. Chris, who had no knowledge of stocks at all, relied on perseverance to become an apprentice in a Wall Street stock company. With his flexible mind, he quickly mastered the knowledge of the stock market, then opened his own stock brokerage company, and finally became a millionaire.
Chris experienced many setbacks along the way, but his young son was able to give him the greatest encouragement every time. The two fathers and sons supported each other and finally completed another American dream.
The film is adapted from the autobiography of the same name published in 2007 by Chris Gardner, a black American investment expert. This is a typical American inspirational story. In front of the child, he will always be the most indomitable father. Even if embarrassed enough to spend the night at the subway station, he still has to play with the child to avoid the dinosaurs. The child is so sensible that he never bothers him, but instead becomes him every time. Momentum to climb up again.
"If I can stop shed tears of time and talents being exhausted, if I can make myself firm, I don't want a paradoxical life, and I want everything I do to be unforgettable, then this enthusiasm is worth it. So, remember that this is never the worst life. "If you have a dream, you must defend it. This is the shortcut to happiness!
This is a very good movie. I cried many times after watching it...

The Pursuit of Happyness quotes

  • Linda: [repeated line to Christopher Sr] Whatever, I don't care.

  • Christopher Gardner: The next day, after work, we just went to the beach. Far away from anything, everything. Just Christopher and me. Far away from busses and noise and a constant disappointment in my 10-gallon head... in myself. Because when I was young and I'd get an A on a history test or whatever... I'd get this good feeling about all the things I could be. And then I never became any of them.
