"Blood Battle of Hacksaw Ridge" has a steady rhythm, very delicate emotional scenes, and real and smooth war scenes. It's just that for those of us who have seen a lot of war-themed works, many links have a sense of deja vu. In terms of psychological shock alone, it is not as good as Feng Xiaogang's "Assembly Number" many years ago. It's just that this is not as good as it is, not in terms of quality, but just seeing too much.
Qualitatively based on the subject matter, "Blood Battle of Hacksaw Ridge" can be regarded as the main theme work, but it is different from previous similar subjects. We have seen too many stories about growing up and changing in the killing, and finally taking up weapons to stop the killing. Like the protagonist in the movie, the story remains unchanged from beginning to end. It is really rare. Even if it is adapted from real people and real events, there are prototype characters who come out to tell and testify at the end, still thinking that this is just a small probability of luck and miracle.
"Spider-Man" played the male protagonist Doss, because of the influence of his brothers and family environment in his childhood, he has an instinctive resistance to killing. "Don't kill" is his belief. The first half of the movie is paved with soft light mirrors and delicate touch points to create an atmosphere full of love. The soft and consistent but containing the first half of sadness and the second half of killing, blood and cruel, become a sharp contrast, like night and day, cold moon and sun. The director is very proficient in the emotional control of the characters, using some details to pave the way, continuation, and transition, everything seems reasonable and unobtrusive.
Hugo Weiwen plays Doss' father, a veteran in the play. This is a "scarred" character. Alcoholism, violence, and sloppy are all symptoms of the injury in his heart. The suffering brought by the war is not hidden in the movie. Hugo Weiwen's interpretation of this role is distinct, his pain and love for his family for his son, naturally, there is no trace of carving performance.
If you can't prove it is right, no amount of explanation is nonsense. When Doss enlisted in the army because of his persistence and beliefs, he was misunderstood by his comrades in arms and superiors, beaten, insulted, and even faced jail. He had a chance to get out of the predicament with a little compromise, but Doss never wavered, even if he was a lover. Persuasion. He didn't even give too much explanation, just affirmed that he has the right not to take weapons. This misunderstood "freak, alien" used his bravery and actions on the battlefield to prove that he was not a coward, nor was he afraid.
Perhaps, insisting on faith will really be blessed by God, so in the rain of bullets, Dos not only miraculously avoided the attack of death, but also miraculously rescued 75 people. There are comrades-in-arms and enemies, and lives are equal here. The performance of this character resembles the possession of the "Holy Father". "Let me save another...save another" became his own motivation and action.
The several battles in the movie were very beautifully shot, especially the first one, which was eloquent and thrilling, but extremely real. Looking at the chaotic scenes, they are clearly organized. As the battle progressed, Doss changed little in the hearts of his comrades. The scene of washing the blood on his body under the reflection of the sun after the escape, and the last shot of the stretcher being pushed up in the air, made this character even more aura of his own. The previous step-by-step and plain, just like the director's self-repression, as the plot progresses, Wei Guang can't help but straighten up. The stretcher rises in the air, almost flying in the sky, reminding me of "destroying the tribulations, fulfilling merits, and returning to my standard."
The Buddha said, "Saving a life is better than building a seven-level Pagoda." According to this calculation method, how much merit should Dos accumulate in his body? If the seventh-level Buddha statue is equivalent to a hundred-foot giant Buddha, he has built 75 giant Buddhas. If it is a novel about comprehension, it is really a golden light of merit, and all evils will not invade.
"Blood Battle on Hacksaw Ridge" uses a true story to tell the persistence of faith. There are always too many encounters in life, and we will lose ourselves if we are not careful. Even if there is a last resort reason for change, one day it will turn off the track. Perhaps, if we persevere for a while, we will get God's favor and support.
