This is the truth about the Western World

Seeing the ninth episode, there are finally two conclusions.

The first conclusion: the heroine is Wyatt, and William is the man in black. There is basically no objection to this.

The important thing is the second conclusion: everyone thinks that there are two timelines, but there are actually three.

I have to say that one of the settings in this play is too convenient to mislead the audience. When the host recalls the past, it will have a real sense of being in the situation. So when we use the host's perspective, we think it is real, but the host is actually remembering.

for example. In the eighth episode, the heroine and William went to the small town with a church. In fact, the heroine is now recalling the scene 30 years ago. At that time she and William appeared in the picture at the same time.

Then walked, only the heroine was left in the picture. This was her now, she was alone, without William.

Then suddenly she changed back to the clothes of the farm girl. This is what she now recalled when she first came to the town 35 years ago.

So there are three timelines in total. Now, 30 years ago, 35 years ago.

Including on the train before, there are similar cutting methods. One picture shows the heroine, William and Lawrence in the same carriage.

Later, the hostess saw the pattern of the maze and said "I'm coming." She was the only one left in the picture, and both William and Lawrence disappeared, implying the present.

This technique is so easy to use, it is just a picture, it can be the present; it can also be the present recalling 30 years ago, or 35 years ago; it can even be recalling the self 30 years ago and reminiscing 35 years ago.

What happened in each timeline? I sorted it out by myself and the result is this:

35 years ago, the

hostess wore blue farm girl clothes. Because Arnold sympathized with the hostess and wanted to create a sense of host, he asked her if she wanted to forget the past and continue to cycle safely; or know the truth and gain freedom? The hostess replied that she wanted to be free. So Arnold asked the heroine to find the maze. In fact, this was severely traumatized by the spirit, leading to serious fragmentation of the brain. Because it looks like a maze, it is named "maze". Since then, the underlying code has been completely rewritten to gain human-like consciousness and feelings, and at the same time it is no longer under control, such as being able to kill people.

For some reason (not mentioned in the plot), the heroine found the maze and was free. But knowing the truth, she was very painful and resented Arnold, so she connected with Teddy and massacred all the villagers in the small town in the sand, broke into the control room through the church, and killed all the staff, including Arnold (as Teddy said, The general killed by Wyatt). After the heroine committed suicide with a gun.

The turmoil in the park shocked the society, and it has been in danger of being closed. At this time, Dr. Ford began to accept outside investment, and at the same time built host Bernard based on Arnold. Because of the turmoil in the past, he refused the host to have self-awareness, trying to control everything and let the park run safely.

Thirty years ago,

William and his brother-in-law Logan came to the park to inspect and decide whether to buy the park. At this time, William meets the heroine and helps the heroine find past memories (actually, the heroine is re-awakening). When approaching the church on the way, William prevented the hostess from entering the church, and the hostess's awakening failed. The latter two were captured by Logan, and the heroine disappeared with a knife in the abdomen (the follow-up plot did not begin). William blackened, moved the killing ring, killed all the hosts under Logan, and broke with Logan (the subsequent plot has not started).

But what is certain is that William finally returned to the human world, married and gave birth to a daughter. At the same time, he obtained the highest leadership of the company, invested in the acquisition of the park, and voted to keep the founder in the park.

now

Heroine plot: The heroine father awakens and is frozen in the control room. The heroine was mentally traumatized, coupled with the injury of William, the man in black, slowly began to recall, dug out the gun she used to kill in the past, and shot the host who wanted to rape her, and set off on the road to find the maze. She was always alone all the way, but she kept reminiscing about 30 and 35 years ago. Finally, I came to the church in the small town of Sand, and came to the control room through the confession room. In the room where she and Arnold chatted in the past, she finally recalled everything in the past.

William plot: After the death of his wife, William believes that he has become ruthless because of his past experience in the paradise. So he came back to the paradise and killed a pair of mother and daughter hosts (symbolizing his own wife and daughter killed in reality) to see if he felt. After discovering that I felt nothing, I decided to look for the maze. Help the heroine to awaken midway (not mentioned in the specific plot), through a series of clues, cut the scalp, kidnap Lawrence, find the place where the snake lays eggs, find Wyatt, find the small town in the sand, and finally meet the heroine (the follow-up plot has not started) ).

Ford plot: Ford has always used Bernard, a better "partner" who has no human shortcomings, to maintain the paradise. Once you find any factors that threaten the safety of the park, you will decisively eradicate it. Ford even used dogs and peacocks as metaphors for people, thinking that people are not essentially different from them and should be controlled. On the one hand, Ford regards host as his own children and does not want them to disappear; on the other hand, he knows that as an ordinary human, he also has human shortcomings-"selfish", and will not allow host to override him. Once this happens, it must be killed. The Arnold incident in the past strengthened his thinking. Even when Bernard had obtained all his memories, he decided to kill Ford. As a human, Ford did not hesitate to root out Bernard, and at the same time strengthened the idea that the host must be under its control.

There

has always been an awakened host in the event paradise. But they worry that humans will be tragically recovered when they know they are awakened. Some of them wander in the deserted land without being discovered (such as Indian savages); some of them become Wyatt people, waiting for Wyatt (female host) to come back and lead them. Re-attack the control room and gain freedom.

In fact, at the beginning of this play, everyone thought it was about ethics or equality, but when we saw it, it was only centered on a simple question: if the truth is cruel, do you want to know? To tell you the truth, is it humane or inhumane? In fact, in "Shards of Memory" and "Inception", Nolan focused on this issue, and this time it hasn't changed.

Then, Western World explained different explanations from different perspectives of parents.

Arnold’s pity and compassion feel that humans are noble animals, and we should strive to make the host a complete human.
So cheating is a kind of immorality, and it is unfortunate to let the host live like a fool. They have the right to know the truth and the right to choose. But he didn't know whether this was correct, so he experimented with the heroine. The hostess expressed that she wanted to know the truth at first, but after she knew the truth, she regretted it, and then killed Arnold. Arnold finally wrestled with cocoon.

Ford’s perspective on God thinks that humans are an ordinary animal with their own weaknesses and need to be strengthened.
Therefore, the human mind is always selfish, saying that it wants, but once it gets it, it will regret it. Once you know the truth, it means that life loses its meaning. Hosts that don’t know the truth are more secure. So he tried to isolate the paradise from the world, control everything, and let the host survive safely all the time.

This is similar to the left and the right in politics. In fact, there will never be a conclusion about who is right and who is wrong.

For example, our different parents in reality. Some parents emphasize giving their children the right to choose and allow them to develop freely, but often they are not restrained and become bear children. Not only do they make trouble outside, they also become prodigal sons and drive their parents out.

Some parents emphasize control and keep their children under their own hands throughout their lives. What clothes they wear from a young age, who they marry as wives when they grow up, and what jobs they do, arrange everything for them, and they are not allowed to touch other things. Because they have experienced a lot on their own, knowing that people are too susceptible to temptation. Although children have always wanted to explore, in fact, once they explore and discover the cruel truth, they will regret it later. So determined to control them to the end, although there is less humanity, but at least they are safe in this way.

It is also similar to family planning. Is this humane or inhumane? Some people say that they don’t have the right to choose and reproduce, so they are inhumane; some people say that they are so poor and still have so many. Although they are free at the beginning, they know how painful it is to raise so many children without money, so it’s better. Controlling it at the beginning will be better for the future.

Probably so.

PS Personal guess: In the end, the heroine will choose the left and continue the cycle; while Maeve chooses the right and regain her freedom. In the end, Maeve and Ford died together, and the heroine succeeded Ford and continued to run the Western World, quietly accompanying William.

Westworld quotes

  • William: [to Angela] Are you real?

Angela: If you can't tell, does it matter?

  • Maeve Millay: [to Sylvester and Lutz] All my life, I've prided myself on being a survivor. But surviving is just another loop. I'm getting out of here. You two are going to help me.

Sylvester: No. Do, do you know how far these people will go to protect their IP? Every part of this building, including the skin on your back, is made to keep you here. It, it'd be a suicide mission.

Maeve Millay: At first, I thought you and the others were gods. Then I realized you're just men. And I know men. You think I'm scared of death? I've done it a million times. I'm fucking great at it. How many times have you died? Because if you don't help me I'll kill you.
