The crisis of the US team is precisely the crisis of Marvel

The film critics gave high scores to "Captain America: Civil War". The Freshness Index of Rotten Tomatoes is 98%, and the IMDB score is 8.7 (data on April 29, 2016). At present, the film is only released first in markets such as Australia and Singapore. The box office results will not be settled until the film will be released simultaneously in North America, China and other places on May 6. But Marvel's success again seems to be firmly established. I watched the show in the theater last night, but I didn't agree with the general praise of the film critics.

From the plot point of view, "Captain America 3" is similar to DC's "Batman vs. Superman" in that both superheroes representing justice fight each other. If you study the reasons for fighting, the idea of "super bat" is actually more profound, but the operation is too difficult. The issues of "creating gods" and "destroying gods" in "super bats" can be regarded as a major traditional proposition in human society. It's just that this question hasn't been understood for thousands of years in human history, and the two hours in the film area are even more unclear. So the "super bat" ultimately lost to his own ambitions. In comparison, the account registration problem of the heroes in "US Team 3" is not so profound, and it is much easier to control. Because of the hukou issue, the US team left with half of the team, and the result was an earth-shattering fight. The hukou that caused conflicts is not so important. Anyway, even the Iron Man who maintains the system in this movie is himself a troublemaker who likes to break the rules.

At the end of Team US 3, the energy of the hukou issue was already insufficient, and the director turned to the personal grievances between the heroes to maintain infighting. Throughout the movie, the various relationships of worship, competition, and cooperation between the heroes, slander and amusement are also very pleasing to the audience. However, there are too many heroes, which also leads to the lack of space in the film, and it is impossible to discuss too deep themes. There are also many heroes in "Super Bat", but the main scene is divided by the two protagonists, and the remaining space is basically absorbed by Wonder Woman. In the US team 3, Iron Man and the Winter Soldier play are not less than the US team. The ambiguous interaction between Vision and the Red Witch is also very exciting. Even Ant-Man and Spider-Man contributed a lot of jokes. If it weren't for the poster after watching it, and confirming that the name of the movie is "Captain America 3", I almost thought it was "Avengers 3". For Marvel fans, it is really fun to synthesize various old stalks in one drama. But for the general audience, it seems a little clueless.

In general, in the process of transforming American Man into a movie, Marvel is much more successful than DC. DC movies are like his heroes, always guarding his own city alone. As a result, when Batman encounters Superman, embarrassment is committed. In the Marvel universe, superheroes form a system, supporting and pushing each other. The unity of the system is also reflected in the picture style and shooting techniques. For example, in fighting scenes, the camera shakes strongly, which creates a sense of instability. Marvel executives like to interfere with directors, and it's also well known. When filming "Ant-Man" before, Marvel's strength caused dissatisfaction with director Edgar Wright and eventually resigned. In fact, Marvel’s requirements for directors are exactly what the Marvel system has always done: maintain the Marvel style and increase the interaction between Ant-Man and other heroes. Edgar Wright has been committed to the creation of "Ant-Man" since 2006, and finally got Marvel executives to agree to shoot an Ant-Man that is not even well-known inside Marvel. He left with an unspeakable regret.

However, after watching "Team 3", I think Marvel is slowly becoming a victim of its own success. Marvel's overall strategy does make it easier for the audience to accept newly produced movies or heroes, thus ensuring the box office. But the mashup of heroes also consumes the old heroes invisibly. If the first "Captain America" is considered to have a clear character and complete story, then this Captain America drags his family around and looks like it has encountered a mid-life crisis. On the other hand, the new heroes are frequently exposed as supporting roles in other movies, making it difficult for the audience to digest. The origins of the Falcons and the Winter Soldiers can be traced back to "American Team 2", and "Red Witch" and "Vision" can be traced back to "Reunion 2". If these characters become the protagonists of movies in the future, they will have to repeat the stories that have already been told, losing the freshness they deserve. In fact, audience fatigue has already appeared. "Avengers 2" is already a failed case. In recent years, Marvel’s works that really make people’s eyes shine are "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Big Hero 6", and "Ant-Man" movies that are out of the Marvel system.

After all, the movie tells a story in a limited time. Marvel connects too many movies, just like making a series of movies with a comic book. If the clues are too complicated, the average audience needs the first five or six films before watching the movie, and they will eventually lose their interest in the film. The end result will be like a comic book, only to retain the audience of die-hard fans. Using fights, jokes and special effects to cover up the golden mean of the plot is not a long-term solution after all. The US team is in crisis, and Marvel's crisis is not far away.
