Like for evil | Prisoner

This film is great. I watched it again in 2014. The damp, cold and empty town in the film left a deep impression on me. I watched it again last night and paid attention to the details. I even felt that this is a masterpiece. The only shortcoming might be Granny Jones. The line was not very full, the clues revealed too hastily, and the others were perfect.
This article is about the main character played by Hugh Jackman, Keller. First praise for Jackman's acting skills. This is the best performance I have ever seen him.

His line is actually completely emotional, and it doesn't really help to get her daughter back. Did he get any clues from beating Alex to help him or Rocky (Jack Gyllenhaal) find his daughter? no. What really pushed his line to make substantial progress was his guilt, because it was this guilt that drove him to visit Granny Jones. After seeing Mrs. Jones for the first time, doubts arose, and the second goodbye, the truth was revealed.

Keller’s human nature has irritability factors. In addition to his natural factors, there are also economic pressure and the pressure of his wife. The former can be seen from the conversation between him and his son on the way to a black house at the beginning of the film. I want to buy a car, but I have half of the money and ask him to support the other half. He has no money and said that the carpentry work is not good. Grandpa’s old house can be sold, but it has to be renovated or the price cannot be sold. It costs money to decorate, and he can't get it out. The latter can be seen from his wife’s attitude towards Keller after her daughter’s disappearance. It was not a negotiating tone at all, and she always blamed it, as if it were all wrong for him to take a break. When her daughter came back and Keller disappeared, she and Rocky talked about her husband with regret. All this shows that Keller's life is very stressful, and his daughter is missing, the police can't find clues, and his irritable temper is ignited.
Then came the core part of the film (I think the line of finding a daughter than Rocky is more meaningful, this line is responsible for suspense, and Keller’s line is responsible for the interpretation of human nature), Keller imprisoned what he thinks is the most suspicious Alex (because there were too few clues at the time, and the pressure on his back was great) and used lynching to torture him into an inhuman form.

From a legal and moral point of view, his actions like this are wrong, but I want to stand on his side and applaud his actions, because he took a step when a bunch of good people were afraid to act because of their kindness. I believe he will also bear the corresponding consequences, because he once declared that he would even die in order to retrieve his daughter. On the other hand, his trusted black friend, not only did not support him, but also betrayed him, told his wife about his abuse of Alex (to no avail, his wife could do nothing except crying), and also accused Keller with his wife. It's wrong, although he also clamored that he would do anything to find his daughter, but in the end, he didn't do anything. In the end his daughter came back first, and Keller was anxious to ask his daughter's whereabouts. The black couple was still unhappy. Although they are not hypocritical, they are not much better. I invented the term-stupidity, which is just right to describe them.

Therefore, when a group of good people were either crying or resigning to their fate, Keller did some practical things. Although from the perspective of traditional morality, he was doing evil, but as long as he did not kill Alex, I would support him. Compared to stupid kindness, I prefer to do evil purposefully, and this purpose is also kind.
I have this view in real life. When tragedies happen, there are many people who light candles and pray for blessings. Few people really use actual actions to save things from developing in a worse direction. When the methods adopted by these people are not glorious or even violate their moral conscience At that time, it was the same group of people in front who pointed to them. The reason why there are such people is also inseparable from the government’s purposeful guidance and fanfare behind the scenes. For example, such things as poisonous vaccines and tainted milk powder, we do not thoroughly investigate the negligent officials (and even promote some offending officials to serve. Senior positions that are more closely related to the people’s livelihood), instead of suppressing people, lawyers, journalists, and human rights defenders who express their aspirations through legitimate or improper means, and also agitated the media to say that the actions of these just people are illegal and disturbing people’s hearts. Accumulated bit by bit, our society will produce more and more "stupidity", and over time, no one will stand up and "do evil" bravely. Of course, this may be the true purpose of the court.

By the way, I would like to recommend the director of the film, Denis Villeneuve. This guy has directed 9 movies since 1994. I have seen 3 of them, all of which are excellent works. are "enemies" (enemy), "prisoner" (prisoners) and "frontier killer" (sicario), where "border killer" I have already recommended too, recommended film | "border killer": silent night, dagger cut-throat
addition The scores of the two "Incendies" and "Polytechnique" are also very high, with 95% and 85% freshness respectively, which is very high among professional film critics. Nolan's "The Dark Knight" is 94%, so it's worth watching. I haven't read it yet, so I won't comment on it.

  • Keller Dover: Don't talk to them.

Ralph Dover: [Looks up at Keller, confused and distraught] Eliza told me they're dead... Is it true?

    Keller Dover: No.

Ralph Dover: Well, she said... they found... their bloody clothes...

Keller Dover: Don't you tell your mother that. Don't you *dare* tell your mother that. Do you understand me? Now, I need you to listen to me...

    [whispering harshly]

Keller Dover: I need you to stay and run the house for a couple of days; and you make sure she does not watch the news and when the paper comes, you just throw it the fuck away! Listen to me... We do *not* give up on your sister. We do *not*!

    [pauses, while trembling]

Keller Dover: I'm gonna find her... I'm gonna bring her home. We do not give up.

Ralph Dover: You're gonna bring her *home*? She's *dead*, *you* can't do anything, you've been leaving me and mom here while you've been going out and getting *fucking drunk*! You think I can't smell it on you?

Keller Dover: [Keller grabs Ralph's shoulders, whips him around, and pins him against the wall in a fury] *SHUT UP*!

  • Keller Dover: He's not a person anymore.
