The sincerity and spirit of inspirational films

Sylvester Stallone, who is more than seventy years old, has always been known for his slightly dull old-fashioned action movies, but he won a Best Supporting Actor nomination at this year's Oscars. It all starts with the best film Oscar in 1976, "Rocky" 40 years ago.

"Rocky" is a very successful boxing movie, which not only led to 5 sequels, but also the originator of a series of boxing movies today. Even if we look at it today, 40 years later, the effect of the final boxing contest in the film is also a leverage, with punches to the flesh, preferring to die, and playing a feeling of the soul of boxing.

However, in other parts of the film, today it seems that the rhythm is somewhat slow and slightly flat. Even in the most exciting boxing match, many people are not interested in this extremely violent sport. So why should I talk about this movie? I want to use it to talk about a larger type of film-inspirational film.

We are no strangers to inspirational films. When we close our eyes, we can think of such a template: a person who has encountered all kinds of misfortunes, endures humiliation in adversity, and finally hits a blockbuster. This deliberately created dramatic effect of strong contrast is easy to make people excited, but it often cools down very quickly because it is far from our reality. And this "Rocky" 40 years ago is valuable in its sincerity. Where is the sincerity?

Rocky is a small gangster who lives by collecting debts for the gang boss and occasionally boxing. He shows talent but doesn't care about it. Note that he doesn't have a broken family or a terminal illness. He just wastes the years on mediocrity. Isn't he similar to most of us? Secondly, a big turning point in Rocky's fate was that the current boxing champion accidentally picked him for the game. In other words, Rocky's success took advantage of this opportunity, which contained great luck. Indeed, luck and opportunity are indispensable elements of success, and success cannot be achieved by just playing chicken blood. Third, Rocky seized this opportunity firmly, and formed a huge motivation with this, raced against the clock to practice hard, and accompanied by the classic soundtrack Gonna Fly Now, he stood in front of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. At the moment of the arm, he had already completed his self-transformation, without the audience cheering for him, he should feel so fulfilled for the first time in his heart. In the end, Rocky was naturally successful, but success is not about overthrowing the original boss and replacing it himself. He did not win that fierce and unusual game in the end, but no one would deny his success. The mature definition of success and self-realization is also one of the valuable features of "Rocky".

"Rocky" is Stallone's screen debut, and he is also the creator of this story. The reason why he can tell this story so sincerely, because this is Stallone's own story. He has ambitions in the acting industry, but has been unwilling to do so, so he has to play a supporting role in pornographic films and be a personal bodyguard. He took this story to find a buyer, and insisted on acting on his own after hitting a wall at least 50 times. When finally someone was willing to invest, he also firmly seized this opportunity, offered twelve points of hard work and sincerity, practiced hard, and built himself into a credible image of a professional boxer, and even wasted the time. The memory and the experience of successful transformation are brought into the movie, and we see such a sincere and inspirational work. But Stallone's own facial paralysis (really sick) gave Rocky a tougher image and reflected his rich heart, so he was nominated as the Oscar winner of the year.

Although it's a long time ago, some elements can no longer adapt to today's audience, but "Rocky" has the spirit of a sincere inspirational film, which is what an inspirational film should be.
