I have two understandings of James’ dreams.
1. The events that happened in the dream are the real scenes that I saw when I was young, so there is reincarnation here (1)!
In 2035, James (the male protagonist) accepts the task and returns to 1996 to investigate the twelve monkey army incident. So we discovered that the idea for the establishment of the army of twelve monkeys and the incident of the virus destroying mankind were proposed by James! As a result, the blurred dream gradually showed a picture of Jeffrey (the scientist's son) holding a briefcase. This is so, James believes that Jeffrey is the big boss behind the scenes and has been following him. However! ! Because of James’ travel through time and space, what he said about the future will have an impact on Catherine (psychiatrist), and she therefore informed the scientists of the Twelve Monkeys Project originally carried out by Jeffrey, and the scientists also made precautions against the virus. Measures have been upgraded. This has an irreversible impact on the entire incident: the army of twelve monkeys only liberated the animals, and the release of the virus was done by the assistants of scientists.
There is no confusion of causality here. James went back to 1990 and brought out the idea of viruses destroying mankind, and then James’ dreams developed further. James once again shuttled back to 1996 and met Catherine, which triggered a change in Catherine. And his third shuttle, Catherine influenced the scientists, thus affecting the change of the executor of the virus incident. James is deeply trapped in reincarnation, so it is the event that has been triggered, and it has also been promoted.
Second, James' dream is only the diffraction seen when he was a child, so there is still reincarnation here (two)!
If it's just a dream, then it may be affected by James' mental state. At the beginning of the dream, only the figure of Catherine and the yellow clothes appeared, and the human face could not be seen clearly. But after the first shuttle back to 1990, because he met Jeffrey in the mental hospital, Jeffrey appeared in his dream. It can be understood here that because he was under the influence of the medicine at that time, the originally vague dream figures were replaced by real figures. Then it can be understood as: In fact, the twelve monkey army just wanted to simply release the imprisoned animals. The scientist's assistant has always wanted to destroy mankind. The appearance of James did not trigger the beginning of the event, nor did it affect the end of the event. There is no so-called end. He just conveyed his true face through a message at the end. But there is still a loop here! That is, James happened to see his own death when he was a child, so this incident affected James' growth, and there will be James who will be sent to do the task in 2035.
Now let’s talk about the last episode: "A female scientist who came to a scientific assistant thirty years later and called herself an insurance seller." Because of the existence of reincarnation, James' death is doomed. Whether it is reincarnation one or reincarnation two, the last action of scientists is to ensure the continuation of reincarnation. Because all the time, what they want is not to change the virus incident, but to develop an antidote in 2035 to save the world in 2035!
In fact, since scientists invented the time machine, they are fully capable of preventing the occurrence of virus incidents! There is no need to be so troublesome, such as catching spiders, collecting data, obtaining pure viruses and so on. Why didn't they do that?
It's simple! They just want to live by themselves! If the 1996 virus incident did not exist, there would be no world in 2035 today, and there would be no existence of these scientists. Whenever the original event changes, the original 2035 world will be replaced by the new 2035 world - and in this new world, there is no destruction, and everyone is living happily (there is only a parallel world here). Whether scientists exist or not is hard to say. So, they don't stop 1996, they just want to save themselves in 2035.
However, there are still several questions that may not be resolved:
1. Who is Bobby? What the hell is that voiceover? Is that the mysterious beggar?
2. The 2035 in the film will not be changed due to time travel, it is based on the big event-the virus incident in 1996-has not been changed. but! Science now tells us that any change will affect the future, and because of different choices, different parallel worlds will inevitably be produced (recommended movie "The Night Comet"). If the original film considered different choices to have different effects, but there is still a causal relationship between 2035 and 1996 after many changes (that is, the same time and space), it will fall into an endless loop!
3. Actually, there is another reincarnation here (3). In Reincarnation II, although the scientist's assistant has always been behind the scenes, this assistant has these thoughts. Isn't it because of those doomsday theories and prophetic revelations? Considering that these apocalyptic revelations may be the voice-overs that initially traversed the failure (also Is that the beggar? The first time it was said that James was very lucky and was not sent to Egypt). Therefore, there is also a larger cycle here.
In short, different people have different opinions! I really admire this 1995 movie! ! Niu Cha in capitals! !

PS: God... in order to interpret the film... I have insomnia... now at two o'clock in the morning... finally I have a convincing interpretation... Good night~
