1. Director Pete Docter
said that the story originated from his daughter's growing up experience, and that Riley's fantasy boyfriend in the film is her daughter's idol-One Direction's Harry Styles (Harry Styles). However, the director himself experienced moving when he was a child and moved to Denmark. It was difficult for him to adapt at the time, and he didn't get better until high school.
The director came from Minnesota and later settled in San Francisco, California. This is the same as the situation in Riley's house in the film.
The five emotional disgust images come from the broccoli that Riley hates most. The director said that he loves broccoli very much.
Riley's childhood fantasies that part of Bing Bong's body was marshmallows. The director said that he loves cotton candy very much.
The first two Pixar animations he directed were "Monsters Electric Company" in 2001 and "Travel around the Flying House" in 2009, and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film for the latter.
The Riley family's surname is Andersen, which can be seen from the credit card of the mother that Riley stole. This surname is also a tribute to Darla K Anderson, the producer of the director's first animation "Monster Electric Company".
2. The twin heroines,
Lele and Joy & Sadness (Joy & Sadness) partner, also made this film become Pixar's first dual heroine animation (inspired by Disney Frozen?). Pixar animations are generally starring males and few females. The last one was "Brave" in 2012. At the time of release, the poster in some areas was the outline of a little girl's brain with five emotions living in it. Pixar was afraid that the little boy would not come to see it, so he changed the North American poster to a child of unknown gender.
In addition, try to design Riley to be more female: like hockey, don't wear pink or skirts, etc.
3. Initial setting The
initial story has at least 7 versions. One is about a little girl who has temporarily lost her memory trying to find her memory. But some were gloomy and cruel, and was abandoned.
At the beginning, I wanted to set Lele and Fear to get through the difficult times together (the dubbing happened to be the two old partners of SNL, Amy Poeler and Bill Hader). But the director said that he couldn't do it anymore. One weekend he walked, and he began to worry that he would fail this time, then he would be fired, and all his colleagues and friends would be lost. He suddenly realized that playing Lele and Fear is just for fun, but the most important function of emotions is to maintain interpersonal emotions, which is also an important thing in life. So he immediately reported to the leader and replaced fear with worry.
Originally, Riley also had a younger brother or younger sister and a pet. It was later removed because they felt that the only child was more vulnerable...
4. The theme
In fact, Lele experienced all five emotions in the film: being angry with worry, disgusting with Riley’s fantasy boyfriend, and afraid of bringing it. The ugliness of the nightmare, the sadness when finally bidding farewell to the popsicle. Lele's creation is also the most complicated.
5. In scientific
reality, the memory neurons responsible for converting short-term memory into long-term memory work most efficiently when people sleep. In the film, five of them take advantage of Riley's sleep at night to do memory conversion work.
In the initial setting, there is another area in Riley's brain called "Face & Name". This area is responsible for matching the names of people Riley has seen. However, the relationship between the two persons in charge of the face and the name is not very good, and they rarely communicate, explaining why sometimes they can't call their names when they meet acquaintances.
The curved design of the shelf in the long-term memory area in the film mimics the folds and grooves of the cerebral cortex.
The shape of the railings on the balcony of Riley's Headquarters and the ladders in the long-term memory area are imitated DNA double helix structures.
The director specifically consulted psychologists Paul Ekman and Dacher Keltner. Ekman is the theoretical source of Dr. Lightman in the American drama "Don't Lie to Me". In addition to distinguishing lies, he also put forward 6 basic emotions, that is, five of the film plus Surprise! The director incorporated Surprise into Fear; Keltner, a professor at Berkeley, suggested that being sad can enhance interpersonal relationships.
6. Other settings
Lele has no shadow, because she is Lele.
Riley is right-handed (also said to be left-handed...this can also be disputed).
Riley's own eyes are blue, while mom and dad are brown. This situation is very common. Blue is a recessive gene and brown is a dominant gene.
The console changes color with the dominant mood, and gets bigger as Riley grows up.
A model used by Riley's mother's brain headquarters and Riley's is an extra row of orange curtains. According to the designer, the orange curtain gives a talk show atmosphere where many people sit together and chat (it may be the kind of The View). Although my mother's mind is dominated by worry, the operation of the console is performed by Lele.
For the poker used to build a real house of cards in Fantasyland, the patterns of King K and Queen Q are those of Riley's parents, and Riley's own profile picture is used for Knight Rack.
7.
The body material of the five emotions is not fixed human skin, but bubbling and glowing, which can reflect that they are flowing energy. At first I only intended to use it on Lele, but later I thought it was too expensive. When I was about to give up, John Lasseter, Pixar's chief creative officer, ran to talk about the full application! The crew said that they could hear the sound of technicians hitting the ground and budget breaking through the roof.
The budget eventually reached 175 million U.S. dollars. The global box office is about 850 million U.S. dollars.
In fact, Pixar knew from the beginning of the creation that the box office of this film might be cold.
8. five years
Ralph Eggleston art director said he worked for five and a half on this project, which is the longest he had to be the most difficult project.
9. Dubbing
When the director first had an idea, he said to Pixar executives: We can ask Lewis Black to be angry! LB is the famous talk show host and Uncle Roar on the 囧 Situ Daily Show. When he first received an invitation from Pixar, he also received a box of Pixar animations over the years to prevent Uncle Roar from not knowing them...Pixar I am very satisfied with LB's anger, and added a lot of details about LB's talk show when he was hosting a talk show: For example, anger often reads the Riley Daily News, because many of LB's "roars" are caused by reading news; Anu wore a white shirt and red tie, which was the classic look of LB.
When the boring voice actor Mindy Kaling was personally invited by the director, he couldn't help crying: It's great to make such an animation. Tell the children: It's not easy to grow up, and you can be sad when you are sad. The director immediately shouted: "Quick! Write down the sentence just now!"
Lele Amy Poeler was called by Bill Hader, who had dubbed Pixar before.
In the film, the popsicle is saying Take her to the Moon for me okay? At that time, the voice actor Richard Kind really cried.
The voice actors of both Riley's mother and father have appeared in Superman-related movies: mother Diane Lane played Superman's adoptive mother in "Superman: Man of Steel" in 2013; father Kyle MacLachlan played in the 2008 DC animation "Justice League: New Margins" Voice over Superman.
10. The soundtrack
is Michael Giacchino of "A Travel in the Flying House".
11. Herman's brain
This film refers to the American drama "Herman's Head" (Herman's Head, 1991-1994). The protagonist Herman’s brain also has several emotions: Angel represents sensitivity, Herman’s female side is also the only female emotion in the brain; Animal represents the most basic animal nature, including appetite and sexual desire, and often revolves around how to treat women. Conflicts with Angel again and again; Wimp is anxious, paranoid and melancholic. Although very pessimistic, he is always prepared for difficulties; Genius stands for wisdom and logic, often at odds with the first two. There was also the jealous Jealousy who only appeared once, and was driven out of his mind by the first four; there was also a God. Herman's brain is also a room with cabinets for storing various memory files.
12. Cat! cat! cat!
At the end of the Cat Mind Headquarters, you can see the cat version vomiting hairballs in the back.
There is also a poster in the cat headquarters that says "Sure locks for homes" (close the door, don't let the cat run away~), homophonic "Sherlock Holmes".
The tail of the popsicle is very similar to the tail of the Cheshire cat in "Alice in Wonderland".
13.
The fantasy boyfriend in Pixar x Apple Riley's brain creates an opportunity to make the iPhone keyboard sound.
This is the first animation produced by Pixar without any input from Jobs.
14. The sequel?
The director said that a sequel is unlikely. Because they now prefer to make original stories.
You can watch the derivative short film "Riley's First Date?" "(Riley's First Date?)
