Let me talk about what I should appreciate:
this is the first time I have seen an action movie, so hard to subvert the traditional role setting. Especially the two protagonists Furiosa and Max. They are more comrades-in-arms. They are partners who agree and encourage each other. Although they have not developed into love, their feelings are equally sincere and deep. Moreover, between women and women, they are also fighting side by side for the common ideal, and no one is waiting to be protected. On the way of fighting, each character is constantly becoming more and more independent. So although their femininity is obvious, with the development of the plot, the girls in the eyes of the audience will become more and more three-dimensional people instead of the original group of "beautiful birth machines".
I am very grateful to the director for making this film, but I feel that the presupposition of gender and individual awakening in the film requires reflection.
Although every female in the film has different personality traits, she always appeared as a victim and rebel of authoritarian violence from the beginning. There is no madness or brainwashing, that is to say, all female characters in the film (except almost as The nursing mothers in the background) are sober about their environment, even if they are shaken on the way, their human nature is intact and healthy. But the male characters in it are all lost. It's just that when Max and the boy get along with them, because they are touched by the women, they awaken their humanity and become aliens in the male group in the film.
In addition, the girls fled toward a "mothers' oasis". Although they found that the place had become a desert after arriving, the mothers still guarded the green plants and seeds carefully. This group of guardians was once again all female . Max and the boys will be affected to join them, but why are there no men among the guardians of the oasis? Similarly, when looking back at this fictitious wasteland society, why was it a group of women who first launched an effort to fight back against the violent despotism?
As the audience, disgusting the barbarism of the wasteland society has nothing to do with gender, but only the women in the film have such awareness from the beginning. Is this too hard? In traditional culture, women have always been acquiesced to be more "human" than men. As a result, "more humanity" has become an implicit requirement for women. "Mad Max" especially focuses on the stereotype that "women are more human than men", and strongly appreciates it. But true equality is to downplay the labels of gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, and to recognize that a person’s value judgment has nothing to do with identity labels. If men cannot survive being lost in a crazy society, could women be better equipped to stay awake because of their gender?
Of course, this is just a fantasy movie, and it is boring to demand reality. Moreover, to get rid of prejudice, it is inevitable to use too much force at first. You can see the sincerity of the director and the desire for equality and respect in our age. In fact, even as a woman, I once had a period when I felt that women should be respected because some of the beautiful qualities of human nature seemed to be more reflected in the female community. But gradually looking back on myself, I found that this is still due to the influence of traditional culture, and if I accept this view, there will be some traits that I don't want so much to have by default, and it becomes another kind of restraint. So the best equality is not to make a presupposition-I don't want to be considered more vulnerable because of gender, and I don't want to be considered more noble because of it.
The movie is good, but if the oasis in the film is not only with mothers, but also a group of male characters who are also eager for freedom and eager to fight back against the cruel rule, and then they will fight together until they return to the wasteland. This will be a more complete movie. ? I think this is something more important than seeds, water and oil. It is true hope.
