First-rate director, second-rate screenwriter

It must be admitted that the final BOSS is different from what I guessed in the process of watching it, but this is not the success of the plot, but the success of the director. It is the atmosphere created by the director that makes it difficult to determine the identity of the boss, and the plot itself has a lot of far-fetched beginnings.

1. After being spotted by the police in the RV, Alex drove into a tree. In the movie, he ran away. This was a very unusual behavior. Keller kept asking Loki, but Loki did not answer. The film did not explain the police's questioning of Alex's unusual behavior. Only when he was caught, a policeman from a passerby said "drugs". But from the back, there was no drug use, and even if it was due to drug use, Loki could answer Keller's question directly with this, and calm his emotions.

2. When Loki was investigating the missing child before, the victim's mother mentioned the RV. This is so close to the key point of the current case, why doesn't he have any associations? If you are sensitive enough, you can think that this disappearance mentioned the RV, and there were also RVs near the previous disappearance. Is alex related to these two cases? Considering Alex’s age, it’s impossible to commit the disappearance case many years ago, so is it related to the people around Alex? Even if these are just speculations, as a policeman, I should check Alex's house a little bit more carefully, right? But loki just listened to the story and didn't do anything. Is this the quality that a detective who claims to be "no case and no solution" should have?

3. Loki was about to hit his luck and went to the priest's house. It happened that the priest was drunk and unconscious. He happened to find the cellar and even the old woman's husband. This was too far-fetched.

4. Why did Alex say that to Keller outside the police station? He denied everything at the police station before, but he said this to Keller after being released. It must be said that I was misled by this, because it makes me not sure whether he is really mentally retarded or a pervert pretending to be mentally retarded. The director deliberately made this character so unpredictable. But at the end, it turns out that he is really a mentally retarded, then it is not reasonable here. Is it because he knew that Keller was the little girl's father, and subconsciously remembered what happened to him? If this is the case, why didn't he say that he was beaten to death after being imprisoned?

5. The appearance of the role of Snake Man is very far-fetched. It is entirely to mislead the police and add a little suspense—this suspense is only in the show, and basically most audiences would not think that he will be the real murderer.

6. The most far-fetched thing is how did JOY escape? If it weren’t for her accidental escape, which provided the most critical clue to let Keller know that it was the old woman, then even if Loki figured out the snake man’s line, he knew that the snake man was related to the person who died in the priest’s cellar. The old woman will be involved, and the case will still be unsolvable. Isn't this the same as when Zhengchou had no money, a wallet suddenly fell from the sky? This is the favorite trick used by third-rate suspense dramas.

Villeneuve is a very stable director, from the mastery of rhythm to the excavation of emotions is precise and appropriate, the whole film shows a strong control from beginning to end. The whole plot and emotional atmosphere are very heavy. Coupled with the investigation of child abduction and kidnapping by helping a friend before, this subject is quite depressing, and it always feels anxious.

In order to enter the mainstream market, it has not become a masterpiece like "Zodiac" and "Memories of Murder", but it is still such a wonderful and dark and suppressed American crime-solving suspense film. Dripping, Roger Deakins' photography naturally goes without saying.
