American Sniper

With many elements that echoes Clint Eastwood's hard-nosed old school style of film making. American Sniper is tense throughout but lacks things beyond that. While he does leave family behind, I think this relationship still could have been built a little better, as does his relationship with his family. In the end, the film feels like a very standard tribute and war movie that doesn't have one thing that really stands out. Bradley Cooper gives a respectable and forced performance that I wouldn't call it his best . However, what was worth savouring was his bantering with his comrades and his relationship and loyalty to his people and country.

I have always hated the patriotic theme of American imperialism, but the rhythm is really good and it looks smooth.

The whole movie can be described as "flat and straightforward", and even apart from the breathtaking ending (just a subtitle), there is no thrilling plot (maybe there is really no way to adapt it). But Dongmu is indeed proficient in pharaohs, and the war scenes are very rhythmic, which makes up for the lack of plot to a large extent; Cooper is really strong like a mountain, and he and Sienna are both good!
