After watching this movie last night, it was difficult to calm down for a long time. There seemed to be a hand tugging in my chest, and I couldn't help but recall certain plots, and then it was even more sad. If Amy didn't kill, I think I could be a Happy Ending reunited with a broken mirror, but this ending that makes people feel as if everything is not over, makes people feel a deep sense of suffocation. I think for Nick, being suspected, being scolded, or being taken into the police station is not punishment. Spending the rest of his life with his returned wife is his greatest punishment, but at the same time, it is also the best growth. No one can deny that even though two men and women are cheap, they are each other's best companions.
Many people say that it is incomprehensible for Amy to set up such a big situation just because of her husband's derailment. But I think it's more because Amy's heart is full of incomprehensible loneliness. She was written into books by her parents since she was a child, and was called the great Amy by countless people. But that's not the real her, just a perfect image created by her parents. Later, she had a husband, but he didn't even know what kind of desserts she likes and what blood type. Whether it is a parent or a husband, no one has ever wanted to walk into her heart, truly understand her, and love her wholeheartedly. Every wedding anniversary, Amy has to carefully design a treasure hunt game. It's just because she hopes her husband can know her better. At the beginning of the film, her husband touched her head and said, "Sometimes I want to knock on her head and see, what is she thinking?" At the end, he still didn't know. In fact, his wife told him everything, but he never wanted to understand.
What is marriage? For them, it is a two-way deception. For each other in their marriage, they mold themselves into what each other likes. In the long-term relationship, they gradually got tired of this way, so the marriage cracked. Amy thinks that Nick is starting to be ignorant of being motivated, tired and lazy, and Amy can no longer satisfy the freshness and speciality that Nick pursues. As a result, they began to punish each other in extreme ways.
Seeing that many people are filled with indignation for Nick having to spend the rest of his life with Amy, but who can say that when he is facing the camera showing his "perfect" marriage and being the wife of American Sweethearts, he does not have a trace of enjoyment in his heart? We can see from the moment when he was interviewed to instantly change people's impressions, there is no doubt that he can find the best self when facing the reporter's camera, and that is the Nick that Amy has always loved.
The film uses repetitive montage and cross-montage to tell a complete story from the perspective of husband and wife. Finally, the disappeared lover returns, and they must continue this hypocritical and perfect marriage. Maybe this is not an easy ending, but for me, this is the best ending. Nick finally said that he must be responsible for the child. A married man who has a leg with his student has also learned to take responsibility in a series of changes. I think no matter how unbearable this marriage is, it is also his best home. They are hypocritical and clever, they tortured each other and bound each other, they must be trapped in this absurd marriage for their entire lives. What is marriage? We hurt each other, we cover up each other.
