"Edge of Tomorrow" is adapted from the novel "All you need is kill" by the Japanese writer Sakura Sakahiro. The movie also shows a cycle similar to Sisyphus. The protagonist Cage is forced to participate in the general offensive launched by the human army against aliens. At the moment of death on the battlefield, Cage was accidentally stained with the blood of the monster Alpha, gaining the ability to reset the time of day upon death. So Cage, who was originally afraid of death, had to face his fear of death again and again because of this sudden accident. The first half of the movie can be called the sci-fi comedy version of "26 Ways of Death". Cage, who has not undergone battlefield training, brings the audience the most intensive jokes of the whole film due to various inexplicable methods of death. From resisting fate, escaping from fate, and obeying fate later, to using the talent arranged by fate to fight against fate, Cage can be described as a lot of trouble, working hard to do everything, and constantly saving and load. During this time of restarting, Cage learned that the total offensive in front of him was nothing but a trap set by the aliens, an encirclement and suppression of human beings. The only way to crack it is to hide behind the enemy in one day and destroy the so-called central mastermind Omega. So Cage worked closely with Rita, who had also acquired the ability to reset time. At the same time, they became emotional, and the two went straight in, trying to use their humble power to break the fate of the entire fate and restore the defeat of mankind. However, when the bomb exploded in Omega's body, the gushing blood once again wrapped the Cage, resetting the time, and returning to the two days before the war broke out.
From the strict definition of science fiction films, "Edge of Tomorrow" has too many illogical and even unscientific settings. But in fact, all the settings are just a means used by the screenwriter to strengthen the climax of the drama. Under the cover of intensive jokes in the first 40 minutes of the film, it is the moment when the film instills its unique worldview into the audience. Through the emotional cultivation during this time period, the audience is accustomed to a kind of safe and rigid thinking: that is, no matter how many mistakes the protagonist makes, There is always a chance to start again. Therefore, in the latter part of the movie, when the disabled Cage launched the last action, the audience's sense of security in the deep inside of the Diaoyutai was instantly destroyed, and the suffocating tension was greatly enhanced under the previous background. This is like a time-consuming game. The moment you face the ultimate boss, it deprives you of the chance to start again. No player will not have a surge of adrenaline. The movie uses a psychological climax to replace the traditional visual climax, just as the visual climax at the beginning of the scene compensates for the relaxation before the rhythm gradually improves, forming a clever inverted balance between the two.
Unlike the pessimistic atmosphere rendered in the original novel, at the end of the movie, Cage no longer tried to resist his fate (Cage: Cage). He took the initiative to come to the barracks, dressed neatly, and walked towards Rita with a smile, as if just to enjoy and Her short time together. The myth of Sisyphus reveals the life situation of every humble individual. They fight against the absurdity, futile and despair of life, and try to find the value of existence in such a confrontation. However, there is no ultimate victory in such a confrontation. The real The meaning lies in the initiative shown by the confrontation, a kind of beauty in strength, and the warmth of human beings nestling in the emptiness. This is all we talk about comforting.
Life is short and there are not many days gone. Consider the transformation of Cage from coward to hero.
