I have always had a soft spot for a person's love theme. For example, "Li Mi's Conjecture", I believe it is entirely Zhou Xun's film alone. "She" is a movie directed by Spike Jones alone. Halfway through, I couldn’t help but check if this was an American movie. I put away the usual ridicule and excitement of American movies. There was no popcorn and heroes, no hot long-legged girls and full of muscles. Tough guy. You can only see a melancholy man wearing glasses, walking through the crowd, occasionally disappointed, occasionally laughing, but his loneliness is always the same. It's very quiet. I guess Jones must be an absolute idealist, not good at interacting with people, but eager to talk in his heart. Collecting film information after watching it, the director is indeed a person who will be too embarrassed to speak for many times in the face of the interview. So it’s not surprising to be able to make such a movie. People who like "She" must be addicted to it, and those who don’t like it will find the plot to be extremely long and dull. I belong to the former, and I know that this movie will stay on my computer and relive it over and over again, just like the lonely Theo can’t forget his Catherine for too long.
The plot is simple. A middle-aged man named Theodore is sensitive and passionate like a woman. His job is to write letters for others. Those beautiful letters also add to the film. At the beginning of the story, he had been separated from his ex-wife for many years. They grew up together and experienced too many unforgettable years together. The emotional Theodore could not accept the breakdown of the relationship and could not let go of the marriage and refused to sign the divorce. Later, by chance, he came into contact with Samantha, an artificial intelligence system, and started a love between man and machine with her. It sounds absurd, but like the last shot of "Heaven Is Destined", what you see is yourself. It is a science fiction film, but it is not far away from us. No matter how comfortable and natural you wear in the future, no matter how elegant and healthy the environment around you is, human beings will always be a lonely animal. The concept of the movie is very similar to the first episode of the second season of "Black Mirror", but it is more delicate and deeper than "Black Mirror" in exploring the subtle relationships between people.
Everyone is like Theodore. On the surface, they are getting more and more silent, but they are more and more eager to tell. What is more eager is that someone can fully understand themselves. That person is best to be his lover, there is no gap between the two people, just like his own soul. But how can there be such a person in reality? Since there are no two people who are exactly the same, there is no such perfect love. Always selfish, jealous, greedy, suspicious, and give up. Samantha at the computer has no body, no feeling, only voice. I heard that the stunner Scarlett Johansson had never met before and won the queen prize by her voice alone. Now it looks breathtaking. Theodore is actually more like being in love with yourself, but do you think you will never break up when you fall in love with yourself? In the end, you have to face yourself with your bare hands. How many people, like Theodore, drink the poison of love to quench the thirst of loneliness.
"She" did not get very good results in the Oscar selection, just as lonely as the theme of the movie. But I think there will always be some people who will fall under the door of this movie, no matter how high the Hollywood technology is, no matter how elegant and romantic Western European movies, but there will always be a place in their hearts for this unique "her". When you are alone, slowly aftertaste, with the disappeared self.
