The Departed (2006)

This is the last unwritten film in IMDB250. The 250 movies of the IMDB250 series finally let me finish watching and writing.

This film is a remake of the Hong Kong version of "Infernal Affairs", so the plot will not be repeated. The whole storyline is exactly the same as the Hong Kong version, without any difference, only some details have been slightly changed. For example, there are two bosses of the good and bad guys, the good and bad guys and the bad cop fell in love with the same woman and had a relationship, and the justice of the ending of the story-the bad cop finally died, and so on. Watching such a movie without surprises is simply a torment for me, which is why I watched this film last. Hey, the remake of this film is so thorough, there is nothing of my own.

The plot is a remake, the theme of the movie is even more the same, and the theme of the movie is much worse than the Hong Kong version. The Hong Kong version emphasizes a kind of suffering and a kind of pain, as if being in "infinite hell". Although this film is also about this theme, the Europeans and Americans do not understand the meaning of "uninterrupted" in Buddhist thought at all. They only understand the skin, which makes the film very superficial. For example, a bad policeman has no pain at all in his life. He enjoys this life. Secondly, the good and bad guys only feel a little bit of pain, but this is related to his own growth experience. Looking at his crying face, As if the whole world owed him. There are many similar places, so I won't say more. This interpretation of the film can be described by an idiom-Zhaomaohuahu. In short, Martin Scorsese only saw the surface of the story, he didn't express it like the essence. Really doubt how Martin Scorsese won the Oscar for Best Director for this film?

The film shooting also did not reflect the advantages of Martin Scorsese, but there is one disadvantage, that is, the film time is too long and there are many redundant plots. For example, the portrayal of the bad boss after the movie begins, such as the arrogant behavior of the bad boss. There are also conversations between the good and bad guys and the bad boss, the good and bad guys and the two bosses, the relationship between the bad boss and the woman, and the overbearing behavior of the swearing policeman among the two bosses. These are unnecessary. What I can't accept the most is that there are many scenes where several people are talking face to face, and then accompanied by huge facial close-ups, making the movie look particularly boring. In comparison, the 97-minute Hong Kong version looks comfortable. The Hong Kong version used very little time to tell a thought-provoking and intriguing story, but the film is stinky and long, and it is difficult for people to concentrate on watching the film.

Other aspects of the film are equally mediocre. The film shot by Martin Scorsese does not have his own stylized things, such as delicate shots, magnificent perspectives, and exquisite editing. If the film was produced by other directors, there are probably many people who believe it. In my mind, Martin Scorsese's most stylized movies should be "Angry Year", "Good Guy" and "Lady from Casino", these three movies can reflect Martin Scorsese's style. From another perspective, Martin Scorsese is not a genius. He is just a film craftsman. He has made more films and has become the so-called "master". Therefore, Martin Scorsese is much mediocre compared to other talented directors, and he should not win the Oscar for Best Director. Martin Scorsese won the Oscar for Best Director based on this film, which happened to reflect the saying "no credit, there is hard work". Who made him a Hollywood model worker?

In terms of actors, this film is the only one that is better than the Hong Kong version. The bad guy played by Matt Damon is very rascal. He is a riffraff and fits the role setting. I didn't expect Matt Damon to be able to play the opposite role. It seems that he can not only be a literary and martial artist, but also act. Leonardo DiCaprio's performance is very stereotyped, similar to his assholes in other movies, but he is more painful in this film. Leonardo DiCaprio has been developing into acting school, and it seems that we still need to continue to work hard. The other supporting roles are all old dramas, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, each of them is a starring role, they also use their own ability to make the overall performance of the movie very good, especially Jack Nicholson It's brilliant. The only heroine in the film, Vera Farmiga, is amazing. I have watched a lot of her movies. She is a Hollywood actress that I like very much. Vera Farmiga is not only beautiful and well-proportioned, but also has a wide range of roles. You can play any role, such as a good girl, a professional woman, a prostitute, a secret agent, and a murdered person in a horror film, and so on. Hollywood actresses who can play anything like her are rare.

in conclusion. This film is a pure remake of "Photographing Cats and Tigers". It has no inner self. It is stronger than the Hong Kong version and is just a performance by the actors. However, the outstanding performance of the actors is largely due to the actor's own strength, which has nothing to do with the movie. The main reason why the film can rank so high in IMDB250 is that the plot of the film is good. Europeans and Americans will of course be attracted when they see such a tortuous plot. The secondary reason is because the film won an Oscar and there are many Hollywood big names. In terms of strength, it is much worse than the Hong Kong version. Hey, it's a pity that the Hong Kong version has too few Europeans and Americans who watch the Hong Kong version, otherwise the score of the Hong Kong version in IMDB250 would have surpassed the film.
