The film was labeled "love" and "fantasy". In the eyes of many people, the touching love between Edward and Kim is the focus of the film. But I don’t think so. I prefer to label "Edward" as "biography" and "fantasy". In my opinion, "Edward Scissorhands" is the story of Edward alone. The story of the fort. Everything in this story is sad.
Edward should always belong to his castle, but he followed peg into reality, and all the conflicts and entanglements trying to melt into the small town began. The bright sunshine in the small town, the boiling voices of the people, and the castle standing at the end of the road are all incompatible, one side is the hustle and bustle of the world, and the other is a lonely island. So the castle looks so close, but it is so far away. No one in the town knew that there was Edward living in it, and no one knew that Edward had looked at the town time and time again from the broken roof of the old castle. Except for the Peg family, I feel that Edward has never been truly accepted by anyone, and Peg's acceptance of him is only due to compassion. When Edward showed his skills in gardening, hairdressing, and even unlocking, people began to pay attention to him. Such attention was aimed at utilitarianism. Edward may not be a "demon", but he is a tool, a hairdressing scissors, a kebab iron, a key to unlock, and even a target for hormonal excretion. People laughed and talked behind their backs, that Edward was just a bit of material about their boring life, a bright color in the dullness.
So you can imagine how fragile Edward is. With a pale face and helpless eyes, he looked like a child, ignorant of worldly manners, and only willing to listen to beautiful poems. The design of his doctor's death on Christmas Eve has a certain prophetic significance, so Edward lost his perfect hands and was destined to escape on a certain Christmas night. How could he adapt to the rumors and prejudices in the world. He has a pair of special scissorhands, but he constantly cuts through the misunderstanding of him in the world, and can't open people's locked hearts. His eyes were pure and clear, but he couldn't see through the filth of the town.
Edward doesn't know how to protect himself, but he protects Kim unselfishly and desperately. "Because you asked me to do it." Edward's love is pure, without any worldly distractions. I think this is what Edward impresses everyone. "I can't." "Good bye." I know that there is no ending, but I still love you with all my heart. He can't get the love of the world, he can only turn his love into every snowy winter night and stay by Kim's side year after year.
The ending of the story is self-evident. There is no consummation, no joy, only painful sorrow, Edward's face is broken in the moonlight. Maybe Edward shouldn't have walked out of the castle in the first place, maybe he should. He is the light of fairy tales in the castle, unable to reflect the appearance of reality. But he reaped Kim's love. In every snowy day, the years of the castle will not be the same.
