Don't need batman

Last year I watched "Batman Prequel 2: The Dark Knight", this time I watched "Batman Prequel 1: The Mystery of Shadows", which tells the story of the rich second-generation Bruce becoming Batman. The directors are all Nolan, including "The Black Rider" which was released in 2012.
In the background of the story, Gotham City, where the rich second-generation Bruce is located, is a city of criminals, where criminals cover the sky with only one hand, and even pay for police, lawyers, and judges to do everything. The summary of the story is that the rich second-generation Bruce saw his rich father and mother being killed by criminals, and since then embarked on the road of fighting the criminals.

The reason for everything lies in the background of the story, this criminal city. The law and the police have no effect at all, and the people are living in dire straits. Therefore, the rich second-generation Bruce incarnates as Batman, who walks the way for the heavens and punishes the evil.

This kind of plot is a typical American hero plot, including a series of heroes including Superman, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America, and so on. Why do we need these heroes? Because the judicial system cannot protect citizens? Because the national army is not strong enough? The background of the fictitious story is this, but we all know that the United States is the world’s strongest military power, with the most advanced weapons and equipment. As for the judicial system, they have the separation of powers and judicial independence that they are proud of. A free country. Why do we need such a hero? According to normal logic, such heroes should appear in a large number of democratically underdeveloped countries, because they desire freedom and a certain force to fight against the current regime or evil forces and protect them. But such heroes appear in various American works of art, including comics, TV series, and movies. Why on earth?

Can you say that this is an irony. Although Americans have lived in such a democratic and safe country, they are still dissatisfied because they feel that they should be more free and safer. It is not based on comparison with other ideologies in other countries, but consciously. It is ironic for those living in undemocratic countries. The citizens of a free country can still reflect on the shortcomings of their country, but their own people can only endure this kind of humiliation and dare not resist.
Of course, many fictional national heroes have also appeared in many countries. They are more or less manipulated by those in power to manipulate people's thoughts, such as Sima Guang, Kong Rong, Huang Jiguang, Lei Feng, and Dong Cunrui. Of course, there are also some heroes who are created by the folk to fight wits and dignitaries, such as the strange hero Yizhimei, the black mountain hero, the Liangshan hero, the Monkey King, and so on.
Can this be a complaint? Because of living in dire straits, it is necessary to create some heroes who do not exist to comfort their souls. There is such a hero in their hearts that teaches the people of the powerful and evil forces that oppress the people. Reality doesn't help at all.

We don't need Batman. On the other hand, heroes like Batman are righteous heroes, but there are also evil villains. If Batman is allowed to exist, does it also default to the existence of the big villains who cover the sky with only one hand and do no evil. Heroes and bad guys can be described as absolute two levels, sandwiched in between are the people.
Heroes and villains are too easy to favor each other. A hero can be misunderstood as a badass, such as Batman, and a badass can also be disguised as a hero, such as a master ninja. We cannot count on heroes, because heroes are also humans and are too subjective. It is like in ancient times that the people always prayed for the enthroned monarch, but sometimes it was the tyrant who came to power. We do not need to be ruled by the emperor, nor do we need heroes to rescue us.

We don't need Batman. We need a sound judicial system that can operate on its own and a violent agency to defend the people. If it is really established, the people do not have to obscene the heroes who can protect them, but the villains who can destroy the system. If it is really established, criminals need not fear heroes, they only need to fear the law and the police. The people do not have to rely on heroes, they only need to believe in the law and the police.

The Dark Knight was deeply impressed, and Inception made me decide to watch Nolan's movie again. Prequel 1, Nolan used a few narrative skills in the opening of the movie, and then told the story steadily, but did not give up the psychological shaping of a protagonist with a childhood shadow, plus some 007's coolness. Looking at these, you will know how a director grows and explores the narrative techniques and expressions of movies, and he pursues the creation of characters.

Batman Begins quotes

  • Batman: [perched on the railing of a stairway behind Gordon's home] Storm's coming.

Jim Gordon: [closing the door to his kitchen where his wife and son are] The scum is getting jumpy because you stood up to Falcone.

Batman: It's a start. Your partner was at the docks with Falcone.

Jim Gordon: Well, he moonlights as a low-level enforcer.

Batman: They were splitting the shipment in two. Only half went to the dealers.

Jim Gordon: Why? What about the other half?

    Batman: Flass knows.

    Jim Gordon: He won't talk.

    Batman: He'll talk to me.

Jim Gordon: Commissioner Loeb set up a massive task force to catch you. He thinks you're dangerous.

    Batman: What do you think?

Jim Gordon: I think you're trying to help...

[Gordon looks away momentarily; upon turning back, he finds that Batman has disappeared]

Jim Gordon: But I've been wrong before.

  • Lucius Fox: It's called memory cloth. Notice anything?

[Bruce runs the material through his fingers, and shrugs, "no."]

Lucius Fox: Regularly flexible. But put a current through it...

[the cloth springs into the shape of a one-person tent]

Lucius Fox: Molecules re-align, becomes rigid.

Bruce Wayne: What kind of shapes can you make?

Lucius Fox: Can be tailored to fit any structure based on a rigid skeleton.

Bruce Wayne: Too expensive for the Army?

Lucius Fox: I don't think they tried to market it to the billionaire, spelunking, BASE-jumping crowd.

    Bruce Wayne: Look, Mr. Fox.

    Lucius Fox: Yes, sir?

    Bruce Wayne: If you're uncomfortable...

Lucius Fox: Mister Wayne, if you don't want to tell me exactly what you're doing, when I'm asked, I don't have to lie. But don't think of me as an idiot.

    Bruce Wayne: Fair enough.
