In my opinion, it is nothing more than Downey must have had an illusion before he was completely brain dead after the plane engine fell and hit him. The proof is as follows:
1. At the beginning of the film, everyone noticed that before the airplane engine crashed down, it was an image of dilated pupils. When a person is about to die, the pupils will be dilated. Everyone knows that.
2. The hallucinations are all things Downey really wants to do.
3. Downey is in love with the long-awaited Ling family girl in fantasy (Heroes Save the Beauty), ML.
4. At the beginning of the film, it can be seen that the relationship between Downey's family is not so harmonious, especially between brother and sister. So in the hallucinations, Downey gets along well with his family and sisters. In particular, Downey’s father talked to Downey in the backyard without a word. This may be what Downey had hoped for. My sister was rehearsing the show, and in the hallucinations, her sister also won the competition.
5. Talking about the school environment again, Downey is very disgusted with the management system of the church school. In his opinion, everything is hypocritical, and the teacher he admires (played by Drew) is suppressed, and he himself Just be a hero, tear off the school’s mask of hypocrisy. The honest children in real life ranted face to face when the professor gave a speech, which made the professor go down and chat, but he won the applause of the classmates. The professor’s residence was burned, and the professor’s true face was torn apart; to destroy the school and put such an axe on the head of auspicious dog, aren’t these all things that students of this age dream of?
6. The key point is that Downey knew something about the gray-haired old lady before he died, and he had read her book, and he explained his illusion through the content of the book (he didn’t want to think it was Illusion), let this book become the foundation of the whole illusion.
7. The key point, Downey said several times throughout the film: "I don't want to die alone." So in the end, his mother and sister died with him in the plane crash, and his favorite woman also died. Even in his illusion, it was the end of the world, and all mankind died with him.
It is easy to understand everything in the film. What time and space, offline universe, can also make sense, but it’s a bit more complicated.
You just follow the movie "Muholland Road" to understand.
