Los Angeles in the 1950s was a city full of various "transactions", and people from all walks of life might come together driven by interests. Ed, a young police academy graduate, is ambitiously trying to make his mark in the police world. All this is for a secret in his heart, that is, to find out the rape "Lulu Tumac" who shot and killed his father in the past; For this reason, he would not hesitate to sell his colleagues and superiors in order to obtain his own interests. Soon, Ed was exceptionally promoted to the sheriff due to his outstanding performance.

Narcotics Detective Jack is known as a "police star". He and gossip news reporters embarrassed him, specifically exposing the peachy news of Hollywood stars in order to earn generous extra money. At the same time, Jack is good at using the media to become famous, becoming the detective with the highest report rate in the police station. Bud White is a true selfless police detective, but because of his upright and impulsive personality, he is often used by others. The three police officers usually do not communicate with each other, but their fate is entangled because of a suspected collective murder in a restaurant. When they jointly launched an investigation, they were quickly involved in a web of pornography, drugs, murder, betrayal, corruption, and conspiracy.

During this period, the three jointly discovered a secret: their director Dudley was related to the underworld. In the process of solving the case, both Edmund and Bird fell in love with the prostitute Lin who was implicated in the underworld. In this way, several men launched a complicated struggle between love and law, justice and evil. Dudley realized that his situation was getting more and more dangerous, so he began to implement a rigorous extermination plan. Faced with the killing of important witnesses one by one, Edmund thought of a reliable man—Hollywood West Sheriff, and asked him for help. At the Victory Hotel, Edmund, Bud finally exchanged fire with Dudley. After several rounds, Edmund was shot in his right arm and fell to the ground, and Bud was also shot. At this critical moment, Bud threw the dagger at Dudley. Dudley was injured, but he also killed Bud.

When the police arrived, Dudley saw that Edmund hadn't shot him, so he proudly took out the police officer's card and walked towards the police car with both hands up. Edmund looked at Dudley's back and pulled the trigger. Edmund revealed all the crimes committed by Dudley and his gang, and the attorney general who had been listening with bated breath was finally relieved to see that Edmund had not said his name. But this was a big scandal in the police department after all. In the end, they came up with a stopgap, describing Dudley as the hero of the heroic sacrifice of the brave criminal group, and Edmund will be the new chief of the Hollywood Police Department.

A little bit:

Had it not been for the emergence of the Titanic, this 1997 movie would have become a widely circulated masterpiece. The well-designed plot is still able to withstand the test of movie fans in today's era of commercial movies. To be honest, it is much more visible than the Titanic. There are always people in the police force dealing with the dark side who are involved with the dark forces and even serve them.

After having a quasi-police experience, I often think about these issues. Rawls's theory of justice does not give us an answer. Scholars' books are always a hypothesis. All the questions were then condensed into two questions, what justice is, and what kind of justice do we need.
