Everything can't be lost

Fragments in one place-images, colors, memories, stories, characters, of course, the most critical thing is its fragmented structure.

When I understood a little bit, I impulsively wanted to edit the film again. Of course, only at the end of the film do you roughly know how to cut it: separate black and white and color; then black and white back to black and white, and color back to color in order. When connecting the color, of course, you must accurately cut off those overlapping parts; after connecting, the black and white part follows (of course, at 1h21m45s, I know that the black and white part is also flashback), and the color part is reversed; finally, black and white first, color After that, the two become one. But there must be many, many details that require some brainpower. I know it’s boring to think this way, because the most exciting thing about this commendable film is its structure, which kills many brain cells.

Rainer, a man who lives by tattoos, photos, and his own handwriting. He tattooed the most important information on his body and used photos to record everything: people related to him, what he did, residence, car... He used a pen to record current judgments and decisions for the next chaotic and brand new one. Identify, judge, and act on your own.

Reiner's own version of life is like this: He is an insurance investigator for an insurance company, has a beautiful newlywed wife, and has a happy life. One night, two gangsters broke into his home, raped and killed his wife, and hit him hard on the head-he suffered from "short-term memory loss". He can't remember what happened ten minutes ago. Even while chasing and fleeing, he would suddenly wonder whether he was a chaser or a fugitive. In other words, for a moment, he didn't know where he was and what he was doing. But his purpose in life is clear: revenge. The enemy's name is John G.

Another unforgettable figure in his memory is Sammy. Sammy lost his memory due to a traffic accident. As an investigator of an insurance company, he was responsible for investigating the authenticity of Sammy's memory loss. Sami's wife tried her life after Reiner judged that Sami's amnesia was a "psychological factor" and eventually died.

Until the end of the film, my understanding was that the Samichians did not exist at all. Rainer is Sammy. This can be found in a fleeting shot (1h30m02s) in the film: In the mental hospital, the bereaved wife Sami's blank but pretending sober face suddenly became Lena (a very, very short shot, as short as less than a second); and Jimmy suddenly called Lena "Sami" before he died, which can be seen as the most direct evidence-a dying person, surviving The consciousness is the true consciousness of disarming all arms. Rainer is Sammy!

So, I understand it this way: Lehner has a wife, and the attack is true, but his wife did not die of rape, but Lehner who died of amnesia after the attack gave her an overdose of insulin—— It overlaps with the story of the Sami couple in Rainer's memory. John G is indeed the murderer, but when Officer Gunmore (Teddy) and Rainer found him, he was already dead. Another gangster also exists. Rainer killed him with Teddy's assistance. There are photos as evidence. Teddy should have wanted to use Leiner from the beginning, he has too many "things" to do, and forgetting after doing it is simply a godsend of "good" quality. In the beginning, Teddy followed Rainer's memory to help him pursue the murder, but it was a temptation: the authenticity of Rainer's amnesia, and his superior ability to do things. Rainer became Teddy's murder tool step by step, and he didn't realize it. His thoughts of revenge are endless. Because he will forget his revenge-as long as Teddy hides the photo celebrating the victory. Teddy used Rainer to kill far more than Jimmy. Teddy said, it was "some little people".

Rainer sends herself to Natalie to start another story: For Natalie, this man is both a murderer and a perfect person to avenge herself. Sure enough, Rainer became Natalie's murder tool again. Of course, Teddy is the culprit who killed Jimmy and killed "some" people through Lena's hand. Isn't it a survivor?

The film’s mind-bending narrative techniques have concealed the many deep tortures contained in it. The most intuitive one is: What do people live by?

Rainer relies on inertia and instinct. He requires himself to be rigorous and systematic, using some habits and routines to live his daily life. He relies on observing the eyes of others to recognize whether he knows.

"Memory", except for "remember or remember" as a verb, it refers to the impression left in the brain by things in the past. Okay, let me go down, we will find a very interesting phenomenon. Similar word games:

"Impression" is a sign left in the mind of the objective things that have been touched.

"Signs" refer to unobvious phenomena that are manifested.

"Phenomena" is an observable fact or event; an experience or actual existence.

Through "impressions", "signs" and "phenomenons", "memory" has finally come to concrete "facts, events, and things." The distance between the two is really far.

No wonder Leiner said: "Memory can change the size of the house, the color of the car; memory can be distorted; memory is just a deduction, not a record." He believes that "memory is unreliable, inaccurate, or even unsuitable." He further firmly believes: "You don't need to rely on memory to master the facts." It's just that there is no evidence of even the most basic memory. There is a bridge in the middle-phenomena, signs, and impressions are all confused. How can the facts be confirmed?

In fact, more than memories are precious to people? All the abilities we are born with: listening, seeing, smelling, speaking, walking, getting up... The most important thing is probably thinking and thinking. Which one can be lost? The human body is nothing but a tool that carries many abilities. It loses its ability and is an empty shell, or it is reduced to a tool like Leiner. In fact, old age is a process of natural deterioration of various abilities; or sudden loss of some kind of change. Treat, nurture, love, cherish, everything.

Finally, I want to ask:

Rainer and Todd are chasing that scene. He doesn't remember who is chasing whom in the middle, so how can he accurately identify his car?

In the scene where Rainer called the prostitute, he was awakened from a light sleep and walked to the bathroom. He must not remember who the prostitute was, but how could he tell her "let's go" so normally?

Rainer killed Jimmy, why did he take off Jimmy's clothes and shoes and put them on him? Oh, I forgot. He said, "It's better to be mistaken for a dead person than to be mistaken for a bad person."

If you look more closely, you should still be able to see some confusion. That's it, I'm exhausted from watching this movie.

    Leonard Shelby: That's different!

Natalie: Not to me, I wasn't fucking married to her!
