Nowhere to go, Tommy Lee Jones babbled and said, what’s wrong in the current society, children dye their hair and wear nose rings, in order to cheat some social security and kill people. He didn't see the blood, but didn't understand this way of killing, making money, and entertaining. This is no longer the world he is accustomed to.
The older generation of Americans talks about independence most. So when Dongmu’s son sent him a pick-up clip and suggested that he go to a nursing home, it was implying that he was too old and could not live independently, so he was so angry; when his granddaughter asked for a classic car, he was hurting him. Independence also revealed that he was lazy and reaped without pains, which made him look down on.
The son and daughter-in-law represent a typical middle class, under the veil of warmth and openness, revealing selfishness and cowardice. The chattering between the old man and the barber can be regarded as a conversation between men; in fact, the old man likes Su because she doesn't speak soft words, whether in front of gangsters or in Dongmu Cha. In contrast, the daughter-in-law's seemingly affectionate rhetoric, including the pastor's rhetoric, made the old man hate.
Why would Dongmu help Tao? In fact, he taught pottery to work by hand, introduced him to the work on construction sites, and gave him a classic car (but not to decorate it indiscriminately). These things reflect the value of the old man. He is still useful. It is not that he can't help
but cannot take care of himself; more importantly, the appearance of Tao gives Dongmu a chance to re-verify his values. Su said that her father was too old to be traditional. Dongmu said, I am also traditional. Su said, you are different, you are white. This is quite interesting. The old man’s tradition is outdated in his own children, but in the new immigrants, it’s the orthodox American culture, which is cool. It is this strength that runs around with the old man, and it can be regarded as the death of a confidant.
The old had nowhere to go. Finally, Tommy babbled again and had a dream, dreaming of his father. His good times are left in the past. In this classic Dongmu car, the spirit of the old man couldn't be retained, so he had to throw it away to the new immigrants.
