Because of nothingness, so absurd

When many people evaluate the film "Apocalypse Now", they only go deep into the levels of war, lies, violence, and the darkness of human nature, but I only see the loneliness and absurdity of life, and nothingness from it. Because of nothingness, so absurd.

Lies are everywhere, all the time. It would be too hypocritical to feel that life is nothing but a lie. After all, lies still have a criterion for judgment. The true nihility is that everything can be right or wrong.

Man is an animal of values and standards. Without values and standards, life is nothing but nothingness. Because of the same or different value demands, human beings are the same. And the madness of war can subvert all the values, and even the most primitive fears become numb and emptiness in the end.

I know Marlon Brando is not crazy, he is just dying. He died in the obedience and worship of everyone, and died in easy violence and killing. He chanted poems in the fog of backlighting and sidelights, and the lonely shadow was heartbreaking. Nothingness and loneliness have already eroded his soul. Maybe he didn't kill the captain just to find a talker, maybe just to give himself a last chance to face the fear. However, he was no longer afraid of death. He said "horror" twice before he died. It should be "hollow".

This is the most perfect war movie I have ever seen.

9.9 points, there may be a better war movie than it, but there is absolutely no war movie with a deeper thought than it. It is called "Apocalypse Now", and it naturally contains a religious element. Personally, I understand the ending this way: the rebellious U.S. military has always ruled its subjects by fear of this belief, but this way is actually very different from his belief, and he has been deeply suffering. The male protagonist just killed him to get rid of him. In the end, the subjects' reverence for the male protagonist is just a numb obedience to fear.

  • Kilgore: [after the Red Team gunship spectacularly knocks out a heavy AA artillery unit] Outstanding, Red Team, outstanding! Get you a case of beer for that one.

  • Kilgore: Lieutenant, bomb that tree line about 100 yards back! Give me some room to breathe!
