Lies are everywhere, all the time. It would be too hypocritical to feel that life is nothing but a lie. After all, lies still have a criterion for judgment. The true nihility is that everything can be right or wrong.
Man is an animal of values and standards. Without values and standards, life is nothing but nothingness. Because of the same or different value demands, human beings are the same. And the madness of war can subvert all the values, and even the most primitive fears become numb and emptiness in the end.
I know Marlon Brando is not crazy, he is just dying. He died in the obedience and worship of everyone, and died in easy violence and killing. He chanted poems in the fog of backlighting and sidelights, and the lonely shadow was heartbreaking. Nothingness and loneliness have already eroded his soul. Maybe he didn't kill the captain just to find a talker, maybe just to give himself a last chance to face the fear. However, he was no longer afraid of death. He said "horror" twice before he died. It should be "hollow".
