A one-man show for nearly two hours

No matter when, split personality is always a very eye-catching bridge, and different movies have different ways of expressing split personality.

In "Fatal ID", different personalities are set in a theater of standard basic reasoning; "Fight Club" uses split personality to explore the nihility and pain of life; "Closed Island" uses superb film techniques to leave the audience with a large number of Interpret the space.

In "Split", through the literal interpretation of "personality split", all personalities are attributed to one person. This requires superb acting skills to complete the switch between different personalities.

At this point, McAvoy has overfulfilled the task, and each personality has obvious characteristics, and his performance gives these personalities a more vivid image. During the audience's viewing process, the role played by McAvoy attracted attention.

Unfortunately, the highlight of this movie also stops here.

The movie spent a heavy pen and ink to describe Kevin and the various personalities in his body. The whole movie became McAvoy's one-man show, and other poor characters became the decorations on this one-man stage.

Fletcher, a psychiatrist, kept talking about the dilemma faced by the disadvantaged group of patients with split personality. The expression of this dilemma in the movie is only in verbal conversation. Most of her role is to give a footnote to why Kevin's 24th personality has power beyond ordinary people.

The three girls caught by Dennis, the two well-connected Claire and Marcia are the tools to advance the plot, and the third Casey who looks more lonely and weird. There is more past in the movie than the protagonist Kevin. Experience description.

Casey had a miserable childhood, and his uncle was a perverted pedophile. Since Kathy was very young, she has been molested by her uncle. Later, his father died of a heart attack, and his uncle naturally became his guardian and fell into the devil's cave. It is conceivable that Casey is often tortured by her uncle's perversion, and is forced to resist her uncle's lewdness.

Both Kevin and Casey had very bad childhoods, and various personalities were born in Kevin's spirit to avoid these pains, and Casey continued to live by silently enduring.

It is a pity that the two people who have such a similar life experience did not burst into any sparks in the whole movie.

The spark I'm talking about here is not the clichéd link between the two people, but the similar life experience of the two, complementing the arc of the personality of the two.

The film shows Casey’s childhood experience with a lens similar to a literary film, but Casey’s calm and meticulous approach to dealing with danger cannot explain why he has been harassed by his uncle for so long but has never wanted to solve it.

There are also two scenes where Casey picked up the gun in the movie. The first time was when facing her uncle, she didn't have the courage to pull the trigger; but the second time was when facing a beast without hesitation.

Why did the two changes so quickly? Is it because you grew up? Is it because you are in real danger? Is it because you don't treat the other person as a human?

The two people who should have reached a certain mental agreement, but in the process of getting along, are strangers, you do what you do and I play mine. Discovering Kevin’s video diary, obtaining such important information, is only listening to background music while working. Can she understand some important clues in the video that affect the personality of the male protagonist or avoid it? no. Can the audience gain a lot of deeper information about the different personalities of the protagonist? It's so pitiful.

Characters who occupy such a high proportion in the plot cannot guide the audience to a deeper understanding of the various personalities of Kevin as a whole. Similarly, Kevin’s various personalities did not affect Casey’s new perception of his plight.

All of Casey's behaviors are choices after calm thinking. It seems that the miserable childhood did not affect her healthy growth, but made her more capable than the spoiled female doll in the face of danger. In the end, the open ending left when the police mentioned his uncle's name was also like a life-threatening event and suddenly wanted to open it.

When it comes to this, I won't pretend it. I just want to say that the character relationships in the whole movie are very unconvincing, and they are not as good as Kevin's various personality relationships. What is the use of putting on such a lengthy childhood experience for Casey? Is it just that a brutal beast is a beast with a bottom line? Or is it just trying to make time?

Therefore, the audience’s expectations for this movie are limited to Kevin’s various personality expressions and the constant mention of beasts in the movie. As for what story is told in this movie, whether Casey can live or change It's not that important.

I really like McAvoy's performance in the movie. No matter how he blows it, I can't overstate it. Samsung gave him all the performances. But you don't have to say that this is a movie with a wonderful story just because of McAvoy's good acting skills.

Even if you shoot the rise of mutants under the guise of split personality, the key is that beauty is not beautiful in it...

The script is broken, the ending posture for a sequel is very ugly. Yimei’s acting skills are qualified, but if you want to say how good the role is, it is also influential, but Anya’s performance is very amazing, and the improvement compared to "The Witch" is moving.

Split quotes

  • Casey's Father: [teaching his daughter how to hunt] Females are smarter than the males. But you know that, it's like humans. Females use their nose to stay alive. They make sure they have cover. They always remember they're trying to stay alive. Bucks go off by themselves. Bucks get dumb during mating season.

Five-Year-Old Casey: Boys make too much noise.

  • Dennis: The Beast is a sentient creature who represents the highest form of humans' evolution. He believes the time of ordinary humanity is over. I hope this makes you feel calm. You will be in the presence of something greater. I was gonna ask for your last shirt, but I won't. Because tonight is a sacred night. It's almost over.
