Whenever science fiction films are mentioned, a film always comes to my mind very quickly, and that is the 1997 science fiction film "The Fifth Element". It does not come from the Hollywood empire, which is famous for its commercial special effects, but from the French Republic, which is famous for its literature and art.
The director of the film is the well-known French director Luc Besson. At that time, his film was still very spiritual and particularly attractive. There are many shots in the film that are impressive: alien opera, flying car, DNA creation, all can make people watch with gusto more than 20 years later.
From the beginning of the movie, I found it quite interesting. A spacecraft approached the earth, and the lens quickly sank to Egypt on the surface of the earth. This classic special session quickly combines space and location. Then, the Egyptian language that I couldn't understand, the giant spaceship docked next to the building, this sharp contrast, although the technique is very simple, but the look and feel is great.
Then, in a blink of an eye, I came to the male host’s room five hundred years later, a cigarette box with 4 cigarettes a day, a small door specially for cats to enter and exit, automatic storage beds, showers, all kinds of smart homes, dazzled, But not overwhelming. Many predictions have become reality now, and the flying car should not be too far away.
No matter how many roles in the film, the characters are very distinctive, even as a tool person will not make life boring. The hero, a retired fighter officer who is full of honor, saves the world later, you don't think this process is very abrupt, but you think how old Bruce is so handsome. The heroine, a pure goddess who descended from the sky, can only sigh that Aunt Mira is really suitable for this kind of role. There are also DJ Ruby, a sly and hypocritical priest, an arrogant and cowardly Drog, a mummy who complains on the phone at any time, and pick one of them, all of which are highly recognizable.
Although the whole film can be regarded as a brainless blockbuster, it has many advantages, covering up the lack of logic. The story is very smooth, although simple, the details are very rich and entertaining. As a science fiction film, people have always believed that it should be proportional to special effects. The special effects of this film can't be said to be too detailed, but the creator's aesthetic makes it more than a few grades higher than other sci-fi movies. Gorgeous costumes, various high-end decorations, and weird alien images are all refreshing.
Of course, in this movie, the creators still want to bring something profound, such as "time is not important, life is important", "fire will only make evil more evil", "everything you create like to destroy" and finally "you like it." Killing lives, then what is the point of saving lives". Although it's just a click, it can make people feel a little aftertaste outside of entertainment.
In fact, these are the advantages of European science fiction. They often appear on the covers of science fiction magazines, and they are completely different from the American science fiction that people are now familiar with. Commercial deficiencies have not been widely spread. The above, or I'm exaggerating, after all, the role of childhood filters is powerful, but when I look back, I can still feel a lot of fun.
We have seen many excellent science fiction movies where creativity is greater than special effects, and inspiration is greater than explosion. Its excellence is not the embodiment of industry, but it can bring enlightenment to people. A good science fiction movie will definitely bring a broader and deeper perspective and thinking to children and audiences. Our science fiction movie has only started. When will we hope to be able to flourish, and a hundred schools of thought will contend.
