Diagram 1: The offensive frontal width is 200-400 meters, and the U.S. Army throws two armored infantry platoons into the attack. The Germans put in two anti-tank guns, which were covered by the Seven General Machine Guns. Please refer to the legend for the configuration of German weapons.
(In the movie plot, the US military has an armored infantry platoon carrying tanks into the battlefield, plus the rest of another armored infantry platoon that was previously trapped on the battlefield because the M-3 half-track conveyor was destroyed.)
Diagram II: Rescue/containment of the remaining armored infantry platoon has been completed. The tank began to use machine gun firepower to suppress German general machine gun/infantry firepower. The armored infantry has not changed its formation. The space between the tanks in the picture is very small, this is just to meet the needs of the film composition, the actual vehicle spacing required in the battle see the following schematic diagram.
(In the plot of the movie, compared to the situation shown in Diagram 1, the German general machine gun has insufficient firepower-there is only one mortar, which is not equipped with a pre-calibrated kill zone. Anti-tank guns and general machine guns cannot form side strikes due to terrain reasons. The anti-tank gun position was finally captured by the US army without any suspense.)
Diagram 3: The illustration included in the relevant manuals of the GDR Army, showing the transformation of the armored infantry formation. It is basically the same as the plot of the movie.
Diagram #4: Diagram after completing the formation conversion. The offensive frontal width of each BTR vehicle-mounted infantry squad is 50 meters, and the interval between each infantry squad is 50 meters. The offensive frontal width of an armored infantry platoon is 250 meters, which is close to the offensive frontal width of an American armored infantry platoon in Diagram 1.
