Synopsis
A year ago, four magicians with special skills were gathered together by a mysterious organization using Carlo cards.
They are Daniel ( played by Jesse Eisenberg) who is proficient in poker, Merritt (played by Woody Harrison ) who can read mind , Henry who is good at escape and Jack the thief.
With the funding of insurance giant Arthur (Michael Cain) , they set up a magic performance team called the Four Horsemen.
Now they are about to bid farewell to the stage, claiming to complete three unprecedented performances.
On the big stage in Las Vegas, the four of them stole 3 million euros from a bank in Paris under the eyes of the audience .
Not only that, they also transferred the money to the scene, flying in the center of the stage.
The magic caused a great sensation at the scene, but they were also arrested by the FBI.
Interpol Emma from France and FBI Inspector Rod (Marc Ruflow) are responsible for the trial of this case.
But because there is no direct evidence, the banks in Paris have no signs of being hacked, and the money seems to have disappeared out of thin air.
So they had no choice but to release the four knights.
However, after investigation, they found that Bradley (Morgan Freeman) , who was specializing in magic reveals, was also there and recorded the whole process with a camera.
Bradley used to be a magician. He switched careers because he found that selling magic revealing videos was more profitable. I believe he will not miss the opportunity to make money with such a sensational magic.
Therefore, Rod and Emma approached Bradley, hoping that he could help reveal how the Four Horsemen accomplished this magic.
Bradley is really good, he can see the key point at a glance.
It is a pity that even if they know the truth, they have no evidence to arrest people.
But soon ushered in the Penultimate Magic of the Four Cavaliers, this time in New Orleans.
Rod and Emma decided to visit the scene in person to find evidence of the Four Horsemen's crimes.
Unexpectedly, the target of the Four Horsemen this time was their investor Arthur.
They changed all the 140 million U.S. dollars in the Arthur Bank account and deposited it into the accounts of all the audience.
After the completion, under the cover of the audience, the four successfully escaped.
Only then did Rhode realize that every action of the Four Horsemen actually has a substantial meaning...
Film Analysis
This is an excellent popcorn suspense film . It is excellent because it has all the elements in the film, a suspenseful story, several actors with good acting skills, and an unpredictable ending. Why is it called "popcorn" again? Obviously for a suspense film, its plot setting is very general, and the lack of foreshadowing will make people feel very blunt . In layman's terms, the boss at the end of the film as long as the screenwriter wants to write it, no matter who it is. Through, this gives people a very nonsense feeling. In fact, the plot is not rigorous enough, and the logic is not rigorous. It is also a big problem for the film. If many details are to be achieved, it can be called a science fiction film because it lacks a reasonable explanation.
Of course, there are many advantages of the film. Not to mention the gorgeous special effects, the cast is worth the price . Not only the old movie bones Morgan Freeman and Michael Kane, but also in "Social Network" With outstanding performance, Jesse Eisenberg and the impressive Woody Harrison in "Three Billboards", with so many good actors together, the group play is naturally particularly exciting.
I think the "money" that runs through the film is the theme of the film. The first magic, the Four Horsemen changed 3.5 million euros from the bank, the second magic, they changed 140 million US dollars from Arthur’s account, and the third Magic even stole 500 million U.S. dollars from the security contractor. What they have in common is that they stole all the money, but they didn't take it. Why? I think the point of the film is that compared to many things, is money really that important?
I think the worst person in the film is Bradley, the magic revealer. The others lose money at most, but Bradley faces 20 years in prison. Magic brings us more happiness. It is the same for both magicians and spectators. I believe that magicians must be involved in magic at the beginning because of hobbies. Certainly no one thinks that this thing has a particularly good future and chooses. Deli went against his original intention for the money. Not only that, he also used magic to reveal the secrets to dismantle his peers. This is very undesirable. For practitioners, it should be a common goal for the industry to have a better development.
For the audience, when we watch magic, we hope that it can bring us surprises that we don’t usually have. Just like Emma said to Rod on the plane, we don’t mind being used by magicians, as long as it can. Bring us happiness. But Bradley is the one who really uses us. He uses human curiosity and thirst for the truth, so he is the culprit.
Bradley reveals that magic is for money, insurance giant Arthur is for money, and the manufacturer of inferior safe deposit boxes is for money. Sometimes, money is the root of all evil. How many people do what they hate to do for money and become themselves Annoying person? In the film, banknotes are flying in the sky several times, but no one fights and snatches one another. This kind of idealized scene may only be found in the film.
For a thing, sometimes enjoyment is more important than harvesting the truth, because the latter is only a temporary satisfaction for your curiosity, while the former can really make you enjoy it.
