I accidentally downloaded the official script of "American Beauty" on the Internet and found that there were many deletions and changes. Upon investigation, director Sam Mendes stated that all the content of the original script was filmed. During the editing phase, 27 pages (106 pages in total) were deleted. The biggest change is: changed the ending of the original story, and even changed the theme of the story.
The original script is perfectly logically feasible, and it is more consistent. But drama will overshadow the theme of facing up to oneself and discovering beauty. It may be that the ending was deleted for this reason.
