I have seen several horror films directed by Wen Ziren. I personally think that Wen Ziren’s horror movies are extremely clever and clever in plot arrangement, light, sound and atmosphere. Here are three horror moments in "The Call to the Soul" for analysis.
1. Ghost clap
At 37:09, there was a crashing sound, a cracking picture frame, and a girl's laughter.
38:08. Mother heard the clapping sound, the sound came from the basement, when the mother went, the camera turned to handheld shooting, and there was a slight shaking. This kind of shaking is not following the mother's footsteps, but an independent peeping angle shaking behind the mother.
38:53. Mother arrived at the door of the basement. The camera switch here is very interesting. The mother turns on the lights from the perspective of the basement prying eyes, and the dark basement from the perspective of the mother gives strong psychological hints to the audience.
39:21. The door closed, and my mother fell into the basement.
39:56. A ball was thrown out of the dark, and the light went out and the girl laughed. The ball thrown from the dark is actually misleading, making the audience subconsciously think that the ghost is deep in the basement.
Mother struck a match.
In the current situation, the audience must be aware that the only places illuminated by the fire are in front of and behind the mother, which means that ghosts will definitely appear in front of or behind the mother. Due to the large area illuminated by the match ahead and the misleading of throwing the ball in front, the audience will subconsciously think that the ghost will appear in the front. In fact, from the perspective of the conversion of the lens, the hint is still very obvious.
40:33. Finally a pair of hands appeared out of thin air, and the atmosphere exploded.
2.Ghost on the cabinet.
41:03. My sister found my sister who was sleepwalking and hitting the cabinet. The act of my sister hitting the cabinet will give the audience psychological hints and be defensive against the wardrobe.
42:00. After taking away my sister, the closet still banged, so my sister went to check it. This segment, including the previous shots, is very stable, and it is the calm that the storm is about to come. The sound of the wardrobe once again gave the audience a psychological hint.
When the camera is switched, there is a slight shaking in front of my sister, but it is stable when facing the closet. Increasing the psychological pressure of the audience will also make the audience more vigilant about the wardrobe.
From my sister's point of view, there is no difference between her sister opening the closet. Yes, if you simply hide the fright in the closet like this, it would not be Wen Ziren's style. The role of the wardrobe is just a false alarm to let the audience relax their vigilance.
42:39. So just as the audience relaxes, the shock comes.
3. Cloaked ghost
The male and female protagonists show affection, which greatly relaxes the vigilance of the audience. Note whether this is the light in the scene or a bright warm color.
1:07:04. The wind rises, the wind chimes move, and the clothes move. I believe everyone can see that the light in horror movies is always very dark. That's because the horror elements can't give full play to their advantages in a bright, warm-colored scene, and they can't create an atmosphere. Therefore, as the wind blows here, the entire scene from the wind chimes becomes cooler, the light becomes darker, and it begins to create a depressive atmosphere.
Ghosts appear. In fact, this section is not as high as the music shock. Compared with the previous two, it lacks some details. But I personally appreciate this ingenious and novel arrangement.
Any similarity in the above analysis is indeed a coincidence. Welcome to give pointers and discussions.
