Synopsis

In the eyes of others, Los Angeles in the 1950s was like a paradise on earth.

But there are scum in heaven. Los Angeles was full of corruption and crime at the time. In everyone's eyes, interests were paramount.

Los Angeles gang boss Mickey is in jail, which makes other criminals who want to fight for territory eager to move, and the contest between black and white begins.

Constable Bud (Russell Crowe) is a person who is good at solving problems with force. Due to his childhood growth environment, he hates men who abuse women.

Police Constable Jack (Kevin Spacey) is a celebrity in the police class. He has a very strong network of exquisite faces, and he often messes with entertainment reporters and exchanges benefits.

Police Constable Ed (Gay Pierce) entered the police station after his father's career. He has a high degree of education and is rational, rigorous and resourceful.

However, rational people often lack some human touch. In Ed's mind, justice is to abide by laws and regulations.

Three people who were originally unrelated are connected by an incident.

Bud's partner Stans was investigated for a police injury case, and the witnesses at the scene happened to be Bud, Jack and Ed.

In this incident, the three people made completely different choices.

Bud stood up for Stans and refused to appear in court to confess, for which he was suspended.

Jack didn't plan to come out to confess, but compromised after being threatened by official career.

Ed not only jumped out to identify Stans, but also made his own suggestions about the incident, and eventually he was promoted.

There will be gains and losses, although Ed was promoted, but after that, he was squeezed out by his colleagues in the police station.

This incident was just the beginning, and a murder occurred in a night owl cafe shortly afterwards.

Several men and women were shot dead, one of whom was Stans.

Even in Los Angeles at the time, this case was considered a major one, and it attracted the attention of the upper-level leaders.

After investigation, the murder team leader Smith (played by James Cromwell) believed that the suspects were three black men. According to the clues, he also knew that they had driven a red two-door sports car.

Smith asked for a team of two to conduct an investigation and found the three black people based on the list of registered car owners.

By mistake, Jack and Ed were put in a group. Through Jack's network, the two quickly found the suspect.

When they came to arrest people, the three were burning their clothes, and the bullet shells found in their car were consistent with the murder scene, which means that these three were the murderers.

Ed interrogated the three people separately, and with the help of superb interrogation skills, they completely shattered their psychological defenses.

However, during the interrogation process, Ed gradually discovered that the complexity of the case far exceeded his imagination, and everyone was deeply involved...

Film Analysis

The film can be described as a textbook for the genre of police and criminals. It is impeccable in terms of character creation, plot setting, and shooting techniques, especially the excellent performances of the actors that make the film rise to a higher level. The concept of the film is also worthy of discussion, including social phenomena, morality and law, and thinking about what justice is, which makes this film full of stamina, both good-looking and endearing.

The appearance of the characters at the beginning of the film has told us that this movie has three protagonists (police), and these three police officers represent three characteristics. If the three are combined, it will be a perfect policeman, but a perfect policeman ( Extraordinary bravery, which makes the gangsters frightened) Probably only in movies (TV).

Bud’s trait is skill: as soon as he appears on the stage, he will subdue domestic abusers without a few tricks. He is famous for his skill. Almost everyone knows that he is “not easy to mess with”, and he can also use this to easily get his own thoughts. Necessary information. However, he can't make the real criminals "fearful", but will be easily used to do some bad things, so a perfect policeman is not enough to have skills.

Jack’s characteristic is relationship: he is a very smart person, he can collude with reporters externally, and get what he needs; internally, he does not forget to share the benefits obtained with colleagues, and win a good impression, which almost makes him feel good. No man's land, so he can find key clues faster than others. However, as a perfect police officer, it is not enough to just find clues. You have to analyze the case and arrest the murderer. If you are wise, you can put yourself in a dangerous situation.

Ed’s characteristic is resourcefulness: Ed’s resourcefulness lies in his knowledge of people's hearts, and the interrogation period is vividly demonstrated. And he has an excellent overall view. He knows what the chief wants, and he also knows what he wants. He can achieve his goal in the next step without violating his principles. However, I believe that without the help of Bud and Jack, Eddard can’t carry on the plot by himself. I believe this is what the director wants to tell us: Only when three people work together can they become a brave and extraordinary policeman, so as to make the gangsters. Fearful.

Why be a policeman? Bud’s original intention was to protect women (mothers) who were victims of domestic violence, but because he was in a domestic violence environment since he was a child, he himself has become a very violent person. In fact, he was not brave and intrepid, but in such an environment, he chose to use violence to control violence more directly.

When Ed asked why Jack was a policeman, Jack was silent. Obviously Ed’s words touched him a lot. Ed said that he was a policeman to catch those who thought he could get away with it. It was to Jack, "I hope to find the axioms of heaven, but slowly I lost that ideal." The well-versed Ed awakened Jack's original intention.

Once upon a time, I believe that Jack, like Ed, was "willing to pay a painful price" in order to solve the case. However, in a big environment, people are easily assimilated, and everyone will learn to adapt themselves to this environment. How else to survive? But as a person, the most important thing is to have a bottom line and principles. At the end of the film, the director told us: No one is perfect, everyone can chase what they want, but the bottom line of being a person is not to lose the little conscience that remains, otherwise there will be no good end.

"Some people have won the world, while others have won a good prostitute and a trip to Arizona." The one that suits you is the best.
