'New Hope'is the first movie in Star Wars series. As being the first, it marked the beginning of a new era,of a legend.Although the movie was released in 1977,I don't really feel the old techniques having too much restricts on this movie for its amazing visual effects.
Everything in this movie is new for its time being. It has a whole new world view that combines future interstellar interactions (mostly wars)and an ancient concept of force--a mysterious energy which connects the whole universe. In some sense,it laid the foundation for the descendant science fiction movies such as the spacecraft war.
So what makes Star Wars outstanding? What extinguish it from other science fiction films? It is certainly not just for its advantage in the timeline.I think it is more about its total layout, the story structure that had been set even before the next and the next movies came out,the complicated relationships, inexplicable similarities between generations and the arguments between right and wrong. It not only gives us the sophisticated story to stomach but also opens our mind for deeper thinking about the ethics when the boundary between justice and evil is unclear.
'New Hope'is only the beginning. The concepts of force and Jedi are first introduced to the audience. And their deeper meaning are in store for future explorations in the next two movies as Luke discovers his power and his family background.
