A strange sadness

If the reality is awake, it is so disappointing. It's better to fall asleep and sink in fantasy.
A land cut off from civilization in the war years. The little girl Ophelia followed the bumps of her pregnant mother and came to the cruel and cruel captain's stepfather. There are ancient miracles, ruined labyrinths, and statues of God Pan, just like the underground kingdom depicted in a book you carry with you. The book says that the underground princess who was blinded is lost in the world and has gone through hardships, but one day she will return to the gorgeous underground palace, and her father and king are waiting for her. Ophelia thought it was herself.
In the maze, the Faun gave her three tasks as a test for returning to the kingdom. So she wrestled with the big toad entrenched at the root of the tree, and went to eat a dagger in the palace where the child white devil was eating. In the gorgeous fiction, she dreams of saving mankind and also saving herself. But in reality, killings and wars never stop. The garrison army skillfully shot and killed the guerrillas in the woods. In an era of panic, even innocent peasants would inevitably be killed at any time. What is the guarantee for such a world? What hope is there? The kind doctor asked the guerrilla leader: What can happen after the captain is overthrown? Another captain will be sent, and then continue to flee, fight, and overthrow. So back and forth, there is no end in sight. But the guerrilla army can only continue like this. Perhaps later, they have forgotten what they fought for. Like a lost curse, it has become a lingering cloud of that era.
But the poor and tiny Ophelia couldn't break free from time and destiny. How clear and innocent her eyes are, how outdated they are.
My brother was born, and my mother died of dystocia. The so-called stepfather always cared about the life that continued his blood. Ophelia became an orphan. She wanted to leave here. But because she ate two grapes, the farmer said that she would never return to that gorgeous kingdom. She doesn't know where the future is, she wants the kind maid to take herself away. But the inside line of the guerrilla army was discovered, the doctor died, and the kind-hearted maid fled in panic. She still can only be here. She was locked up, and there was nothing in the lonely room. Love or hallucinations.
Fairy tales will have turns. So the god of farmer appeared and told her: You only have this chance. Bring your brother into the maze, and the entrance to the kingdom will open for you. She hugged her newborn brother and ran all the way, behind her mad stepfather chasing after him. If this is really a fairy tale, the following story should be like this: the little girl finally escaped from the clutches of her stepfather, opened the door of the underground kingdom at the last moment, and returned to her magnificently. But this is not a fairy tale, just a lonely illusion. She said to the non-existent farmer in the void; no, I can't hurt my brother. Even if you can never go back. Then the gunfire ended everything. Her blood flowed down her arm to the entrance of the kingdom that was close at hand. Maybe she was thinking, finally I can go back, or, finally, I can leave.
Regarding beautiful fairy tales, the stories are mostly the same. Through her blind eyes, she saw the magnificent palace, her parents. The god of agriculture and the people of the kingdom warmly praised her for her kindness and courage. After thousands of years of waiting, their princess finally returned. From then on, the whole kingdom will live a happy and fulfilling life.
But there was nothing, the blood flowing out did not flow back, but gradually cooled down. Her rich and powerful heart will always remain in her small body, and then buried in the mud. When the years finally passed, the peace finally came. Perhaps all unfulfilled dreams will become roses in full bloom on the soil. Quiet, secretly enchanting. At that time, all people will forget, the hopelessness and bloody once, and forget what kind of strange sadness a girl named Ophelia once had.

Pan's Labyrinth quotes

  • Mercedes: My mother told me to be wary of fauns.

  • Capitán Vidal: You could have obeyed me!

Doctor: But Captain, to obey - just like that - for obedience's sake... without questioning... That's something only people like you do.
