In an American society with extreme material desires, people's hearts are worthless. Once people can't satisfy their vanity, they become empty. I think there are many people with such distortions in real life. They want to gain a sense of superiority from others, and even control others, claim their lives, and their human nature is gradually deteriorating. The capitalist American society hides ugly and greedy faces under the coat of the American dream. They may have a wealth of money, but their hearts are infinitely sad. Patrick Bateman, rich second-generation, Wall Street manager, expensive apartments, and luxurious life have become synonymous with him, but he has nothing else. Even, he thought that these labels were everything to him, so he was vain, and he killed innocent beggars on the street, because such a worthless person was not worthy to live in this world; he killed his friends because he had a better life and had a perspective. A more beautiful apartment, and a business card with a more luxurious connotation; he murdered a prostitute in a rage, only because the prostitute had no intention of pointing out the downfall of his own apartment. Such a person is undoubtedly empty, and he felt it himself. He wanted to jump out of this vicious circle, so he lewd obscene words to the bar lady, confessed his crimes to the lawyer, and expected other people to react differently. However, apart from the label on his body, everything else was ignored. Therefore, we need the existence of God, we need unconditional love after penetrating all labels, we want to be redeemed, but we are powerless to change the world. If we live for labels, then the world might as well disappear.
