"Bohemian Rhapsody" is not so much a biography of Queen as it is a personal autobiography of lead singer Freddie Mercury. Regarding the evaluation of this film, although the average rating of major film review sites is as high as 8.5 points or more, the actor Rami Marek also won the best actor Oscar for this film, but the audience's praise for the film was mixed.
The audience represented by Gao Xiaosong thinks that this movie is a "Wikimovie", the narrative structure is too monotonous, and the shooting angle is problematic. The story is basically told according to the introduction of Wikipedia, and the film should be unknown or more popular. Those things, not things that everyone knows.
Most viewers still like it very much, thinking that the film is very burning and brings back countless memories, just like the official slogan, forever young and always tears in their eyes. The degree of restoration is extremely high, especially the singing and dancing of Freddie of Live Aid in 1985 is a perfect reproduction. It really makes people want to travel to the past to participate in that concert.
However, the film is more like an image than a god. Rami Marek is indeed great, able to act Freddy so realistically, but in the eyes of many music fans, he still cannot replace the real Freddy.
In addition, many events in the film are messy in terms of time. For example, members of the band did not know that Fred was sick until 1989. Taylor released "Fun in Space" in April 1981 and "Fun in Space" in June 1984. Boundaries; May released the Starfleet Project in October 1983; and Freddy's Mr. Bad was released in April 1985.
Although the screenwriter McCarten said that this is for theatrical effect, "We are making a movie, not a documentary." Mr. Hairtail thinks that it is understandable as a moderate adaptation of the film, but as a biographical film, some events involve the image of the protagonist. The truthfulness of it is equally important, whether it is positive or negative.
So, in fact, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a self-contradictory movie. On the one hand, it wants to give the audience a high degree of restoration of the story of the characters. On the other hand, it is adapted in a very general and superficial way.
In fact, Freddie is more "bohemian", "coquettish", "gentle", "confident", "maverick", etc. than the characters in the movie. It is simply made in heaven, especially when I look at him. After the BBC documentary, I confirmed this even more.
The song "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the Queen’s famous song, and it is also a song with a variety of styles. It is interspersed with various styles in just six minutes. The structure is very special. There is no repeated chorus, but several styles. The very different parts of the composition include overture, ballad, guitar solo, opera, hard rock, and ending.
Therefore, Mr. Hairtail will also use the following six parts to tell the story about Freddy. Of course, I will not follow the introduction on the encyclopedia.
01 Overture
I'm just a poor kid, and I don't deserve sympathy. Because I always come and leave. Sometimes high-pitched, sometimes low-pitched. It doesn't matter to me where the wind blows.
Perhaps it has something to do with his Indian-Persian ancestry. Freddie, who has loved music since he was a child, has been practicing piano since he was 7 years old, and he formed a band when he was studying.
In contrast, his looks, especially the front teeth, are particularly outstanding, and he is always C in the crowd wherever he stands. When I saw the pictures of his middle and elementary schools, I was shocked. Isn't this the "marginal person" in the class? Perhaps, he had received a lot of ridicule because of that front tooth.
Judging from the photos, this is a quiet and shy boy, but in fact he has a strong desire to express himself . The contrast of personality often makes people unexpected. This contrasts sharply with his gorgeous style and voice spanning four octaves on stage since then.
It was extremely arrogant in public, and extremely quiet in private. There are actually many similar actors, such as Chaplin and Zhou Xingchi. If the crutch is the scepter of Chaplin's performance, then in Freddy's, the microphone is his scepter.
Like a queen, holding a scepter, he waved Fang Qiu on the stage, leading the people below to cheer for joy , enjoying the feeling of being above ten thousand people very much. In his operas and concerts, there are always movements designed to be lifted up high.
To realize this “dominant industry” requires the help of a team and good buddies. Just as Liu Bei needed Zhang Fei and Guan Yu back then, Freddie met the guitarist Brian May and the drummer Roger of Smile in 1970. Taylor, and renamed the band Queen.
The Queen became the most important career of his life.
02 Ballad
Mom, I just killed someone. I took the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Now he is dead. Mom, life has just begun... bye bye, everyone, I am leaving and I will leave you Go, to accept the reality of the trial
There are two most controversial points about Freddy, one is sexual orientation and the other is AIDS. Unlike now, people are becoming more and more open and tolerant of sexual concepts. It seems normal. At that time, homosexuality was discriminated against. Especially for superstars like Freddy, it will inevitably cause an uproar. .
He is more well-known for two romances, one is with Mary Austin and the other is with Jim Huton. The episode with Mary started since he hadn't joined the queen band. There is no doubt that he loves this woman. The song "love of my life" was written for her (but Freddie said in his biography that this song was written to his first boyfriend, the record label executive David Mins ) After Freddie died, she also left the house and most of the inheritance to her, perhaps this is a kind of compensation.
Freddie also went to Mary's house to play with her children. It can be seen that the relationship between the two has not reached the point of breaking up, and they are still good friends when they meet.
As for being with Jim, it seems to follow the inner choice. According to Jim recalled, Freddie was like an ordinary person in front of him, quiet, normal, without the aura of a superstar .
He was diagnosed with AIDS only in 1987. Although there were signs of this before, members of the Queen didn’t know until 1989. In 1991, Freddie died the day after he declared that he had AIDS.
At that time, there was overwhelming news about his death from AIDS. Some people said that he deserved it. Because of promiscuity and disorder in life, as two members of the Queen’s band, they came out to clarify the facts.
If the film can capture those unknown stories after 1985, it may be able to make Freddie in the film more full. Because after the live aid concert, Freddie started to do what he really wanted to do.
03 guitar solo
I don’t want to die, even sometimes I wish I never came into this world
Freddy is fanatical about music. He is dissatisfied with rock music. He wants to do something he has never tried before . He tries to blend a variety of styles and constantly leads the audience to find more refreshing things.
He has released two solo albums. There are a lot of things he wants to express in these two albums. The lyrics of "The Great Pretender" seem to be very intriguing, or he has collaborated with many big-name celebrities, such as Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Monserrate Kabaye and others have created various music works in different styles.
When watching his documentary, you can see that he is a rebellious person, but in fact he is also a person who is passionate about life. In fact, Freddie is still a cat slave. He has raised a lot of cats, and even brought his own cat to the concert.
He also makes some funny little moves, sticks out his tongue to the camera, and doesn't care what others think of him. Even when the reporter asked him what he thought of some TV stations, he showed his love and hatred, like a child . If you say that today, it is estimated that you will be overwhelmed by the saliva of the Internet.
04 Opera
Forgive this freak, I'm always called by people, will you let me go? In the name of God! No, we won't let you go-let him go
Freddie likes opera very much, and he can feel it from this "Bohemian Rhapsody", even though it is a pseudo-opera. But afterwards, he finally collaborated with the Spanish opera artist Monserrate Caballe to launch a series of opera-style songs, the most classic of which is "Barcelona".
The song "Barcelona" was originally set as the theme song of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. It was cancelled because of Freddie’s sudden death. It caused fan anger. Kabaye also refused to participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games that year and did not sing with other singers. pass.
In the future, this song will still become a classic memory of many people for the Olympic Games that year, and many fans also learned about and fell in love with the city of Barcelona because of this song.
In fact, Freddy's love for opera is not a whim. He has also participated in many opera performances before. He likes ballet. The motion design inspiration for many concerts also comes from opera. So from a certain perspective, his passionate and unrestrained performances in concerts are actually opera-like performances again and again.
05 Hard Rock
Then you think you can stone me to death, spit on me, then you think you can love me and let me die by myself, baby, can’t do this to me, baby I must go out, I must escape from this place
Freddy's life is like the structure of this song, even if he knows that his time is running out, he still wants to be the truest self. After the concert in 1985, his life was a hearty heavy metal rock.
He once said that the songs he wrote were in the past tense, one-off. He likes to look forward and write new things.
Therefore, in the last few years, he has been creating new things to give the audience a fresher experience, and these things are very visionary, like the last album of the Queens band is not his final farewell to fans. ?
This album has undoubtedly become the sales champion of the year, and many fans are not even willing to listen to this album. Yes, Queen reinterpreted rock and roll and returned to the original aspiration, as if time went back to 1971. The four of them looked ambitious. Perhaps as fans said, rock was unexpectedly sad .
06 Ending
Nothing makes sense anymore, anyone can see that everything is irrelevant, it doesn’t matter to me anymore
Freddy said to his agent when he was dying: You can deal with my music, image, life, anything at will, but don't let me be bored.
When he died, more than a hundred diehard fans and friends gathered at him downstairs to see him off, and put flowers in front of his door. Elton John, David Bowie and three other members of the Queen's band also attended his funeral. He was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.
Nowadays, I see the image of him on the big screen, although there is still a distance from him. After all, no one can fully copy Freddie , but as long as their song plays again, continue to make the audience rock up, It will never be so boring.
End
[Mr. Hairtail]: I will accompany you to talk about movies and TV dramas with my heart. Thank you for your attention and praise.
