"Birdman": a "good" but "not good" movie

For me, Gonzalez is one of the few directors I respect but don't really like. Others include David Fincher, Eastwood, etc. However, compared to the latter two directors, I can almost say that I like him. But "Birdman" not only did not make my eyes full of tears like "The Mistakes", it also failed to achieve the moving appearance of "The Tower of Babel", although I admit that it is a very good movie (here should be There is "but I just don't like it").

The director's proficiency and the actors' superb acting skills are accurately reflected in "Birdman". "Birdman", or should be renamed "Birdman", tells the story of an overwhelming actor who played "Birdman" The story of desperate attempts on the stage to make a comeback. "Birdman" is a play in the play, Michael Keaton almost played himself (he was a Batman actor in the late eighties, such as the day in the sky), or a representative of many Hollywood actors. In the eyes of the audience, they were smash idols, but now they are gradually forgotten; in the eyes of critics, they are dolls who are famous by their faces, they have no real talents and are scorned; in their own eyes, they are contradictory : Both regret for the rapid retreat, but also look down on the popular fried chicken; both feel that what I do is "art", but also eager to be favored by critics. They cherish the memory of their past self, and feel that they should make a breakthrough. In the end, they can only use their lives to solve such a profound contradiction.

Of course, it's not fair to say that Michael Keaton is too angry. "Fade out" can be better to describe him than "passed out". An actor retires from the front desk after experiencing strong winds and waves. "It is no longer our arena" and concentrates on behind-the-scenes production and careers that are not closely related to fame and wealth. This is an acting skill of the return of the king. After understanding the true meaning of life, it is more than enough to get a golden figure, and even the Emma Stone who plays the role is extremely brilliant by him.

Let me talk about what I don’t like about this movie. Gonzalez is a revolutionary director. I sometimes feel that his thinking is too advanced or too dark for me to understand. In "Tong Tian Pagoda", he used the interlaced multi-thread narrative to let the audience see the emotion of the final enlightenment, and the deep affection in "Beautiful Cuo" and "21 Grams" made the audience feel immersive. But "Birdman" discards both of them, and is more like a satire written for insiders. Glory and humble belong to them, and obscurity does not belong to an audience like me.

I hope Gonzalez can make some more universal movies, or refocus the lens on his familiar Spanish world. I miss the Spanish beaches in his lens, the stowaways on the US-Mexico border, and the vigorous and calm narration.

This movie was not made for us outsiders

One of the best movies of 2014! The pseudo-long shot of "One Mirror to the End", the perfect combination of jazz drums and classical music, the wonderful true colors of Keaton, Nuomi, and Norton, Emma's groundbreaking drama, the scheduling and narration of the virtual and the reality, the jokes are constant but yet again A wonderful script shrouded in a sad and gloomy atmosphere, an explicit satire on the Hollywood showbiz, a portrayal of self and social contradictions, the deconstruction of vanity, reputation, and thinking about life and family 9.5/10

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) quotes

  • Mike Shiner: Is this water? Did you replace my gin with water, man?

    Riggan: Mike. Come on.

Mike Shiner: No. Come on, what?

    Riggan: Come on, you're drunk.

Mike Shiner: I'm drunk? Yes, I'm drunk! I'm supposed to be drunk! Why aren't you drunk? This is Carver. He left a piece of his liver on the table every time he wrote a fucking page. If I need to be drinking gin, who the fuck are you to touch my gin, man? Listen, you fucked with the period, you fucked with the plot so you could have the best lines, you leave me the fucking tools that I need! Oh, come on people, don't be so pathetic. Stop looking at the world through your cellphone screens. Have a real experience! Does anybody give a shit about truth other than me? I mean the set is fake, the bananas are fake, there's fucking nothing in this milk carton, your performance is fake. The only thing that is real on this stage is this chicken. So, I'm gonna work with the chicken.

  • Mike Shiner: Give me a cue again.

Riggan: Okay. "Hey, I'm the wrong person to ask. I don't actually know the man, I've heard his name mentioned in passing. I don't know, you'd have to know the particulars. I think what you're saying..."

Mike Shiner: Hey, can I make a suggestion, do you mind?

Riggan: Yeah, yeah sure, no not at all.

Mike Shiner: Okay, just stay with me. "I'm the wrong person to ask," he says, but what is that, what is the intention in that? Is he fed up with the subject so he's changing it, is he deflecting guilt over the marriage? And here's the thing, you've got four lines after that that all say the same thing. "I didn't even know the man, I only heard his name mentioned in passing, I wouldn't know, you'd have to know the particulars..." The point is, you don't know the guy, we f - king get it. Make it work with one line: "I didn't even know the man." Right?

Riggan: Right. Yeah. You know my lines too, huh?

Mike Shiner: Can we not get hung up on knowing lines?
