For rock fans, music biographical movies are always not enough. "Bohemian Rhapsody", which just won the Golden Globe Award, reproduced the life of Queen lead singer Freddy in Hollywood style. In contrast, "Midsummer", which was shortlisted for the main Cannes competition last year, was too much to mention. Those legendary labels of the Soviet "Godfather of Rock" Victor Cui——
He is a Korean immigrant with yellow skin and black hair;
He founded the rock band "kino" (Kино) when rock music was banned;
He used music to speak for political change and became the spiritual leader of young people across the country, even Gorbachev was a fan;
He died in a car accident at the age of 28 and was called the "last hero" before the collapse of the Soviet Union;
Today, Russia has his memorial wall, sculptures and streets of the same name, and people still sing his songs when they march...
The film only captures the most inconspicuous segment of Victor's life. Before the legend became a legend, perhaps every Che Guevara had a section of "Motor Diary", and every Victor Cui also had a past of "Midsummer" related to youth, friends and rock music. Rewrite fate in the dark.
In the early 1980s, at the seaside of Leningrad in the summer, the famous lead singer Mike played the guitar with his friends: "In midsummer / I was fired when the sun came out / I didn't have money but I had a lot of time / I didn't need money either" , In the depressing years, it is like a ray of breeze. The hairy boy Victor Choi followed the song to find them, and since then officially stepped into the underground rock circle.
In fact, those days were difficult to endure. The political atmosphere in the Soviet Union was horrified, and rock music, the "American poisonous weed", could only grow in underground clubs. When Victor sang rebellious lyrics on stage, the inspectors would strictly monitor the audience. The audience sat in the auditorium with dreads and did not dare to swing with the rhythm; the censors praised the lyrical song, but criticized Victor's song as "Smelly Ditch Music." .
The suppressed restlessness of the young people is presented in the imagination by the movie in a surreal way: in the train compartment, they fight with conservative-thinking comrades; in the small auditorium, they wantonly pogo diving. Although in fact--
Victor was not yet a hero at the time. In the summer of the movie, he didn't want to worry about the censors, and he couldn't hear the voices outside. He just wanted to create music and sing the voice of the younger generation. He also yearned for a small stage.
The collective apartment of Mike and his wife Natasha is filled with the purest joy of these rock youths:
Together they listened to the Beatles, Zeppelin, Velvet Underground and David Bowie, imitating chords and voices; Victor saved money as a carpenter, and discussed with his friends "Buy an effector or drink first"; Sometimes when rehearsing in the middle of the night, neighbors scolded them as social scum; Natasha started to listen to Victor's recommended songs while cooking and raising children; there was a friend who liked photography and always took a camera to record their time together.
Not surprisingly, Natasha transferred her former fascination with Mike to Victor. But after a soft kiss, this summer romance came to an abrupt end, Victor still cherished Mike, a musical confidant, and Natasha also chose to return to the family.
In reality, Victor and Mike passed away a few years later, and Natasha wrote these summer secrets as a diary. After reading it, Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov decided to make this film.
Regardless of the heaviness of political issues, and no plot of a love triangle at 8 o'clock, "Midsummer" is just a moving short poem dedicated to love and freedom. The days in your 20s should be used to chase those hot and full of vitality!
Like Victor Choi in the story, many people later became famous in their fields with dazzling titles on their heads. But fortunately, when they were young, it was impossible for anyone to predict their future life. In the summer more than ten years ago, they had only friends and music in their lives. Playing in teams was the most adrenaline-driven thing. Those times were mixed with the smell of midsummer. Together, it becomes a personal emotional memory.
In previous programs of Japanese talks, we also treasured some hot youth.
