Recently I made a documentary three times in one breath, and the little detective who thought he had high tears was cried twice by it.
To be honest, it's been a long time since the detective saw a movie that made me cry.
So I don’t know what language to describe it, so it took a long time before I decided to write this tweet.
Don’t talk about it, I just want to tell you a story about the "three boys" today , hoping to bring you a little touch.
The old driver is not driving today, just want to talk about life with you...
"Skate Boy"
Minding the Gap
As its name suggests, this is a story unfolded by skateboarding.
The story focuses on three boys who got acquainted with skateboarding, Zack, Keire and Liu Bing.
Like skateboards that represent adventure, they are slutty, unruly, and eager for freedom.
But as the story develops, you will find that behind skateboarding is their full of unfortunate childhood experiences and struggling in life...
I don’t know if you still remember, the little detective pushed a [Rewind Life] starring Benny and Tang Laoshi before (please stamp the title for details)
This documentary is very similar to [Rewind Life]. It explores the impact of childhood experiences on people's lives.
The difference is that [Rewind Life] is a film adapted from real people and stories, and the writer of the story is Alexander, who is out of the ordinary .
And [Skate Boy] is the camera recording the real life of the protagonists, and the recorder is one of the protagonists who has the same experience, Liu Bing.
The role deduced by the best actor will deviate from the prototype to a certain extent.
So, compared to [Rewind Life], this [Skate Boy] is more real!
Regarding the lives of the protagonists, it does not add any modification, just like peeling an onion, peeling away the blood and tears of the protagonists layer by layer.
It allows the audience to experience the lives of the protagonists firsthand, just as they have experienced it before, and they have a more sense of substitution.
Perhaps, this is why it can get 100% freshness of rotten tomatoes, 98% of the audience praise rate , such a high evaluation ↓
Not much to say, I will tell you their stories...
Zack grew up in a single-parent family and left home at 16 to live alone.
Looking at the photos, it is really difficult to associate this sunny boy with the word "degenerate" .
At the age of 15, he is sunny, kind and loyal.
When he first met Keire , he rescued Keire who was bullied by a bad boy.
Even when they first met, Keire regarded him as his life benchmark.
But this seemingly sunniest boy is also the most depraved and the worst in life in the whole film.
Later, he smoked marijuana, drank alcohol, left his children, and ate soft meals . The worst aspects of all men were magnified infinitely on him.
And he became what he is now, the "home" he had always wanted to escape from is irrelevant.
His father had him when he was 21 years old, and his mother left them when he was two years old.
Later, his father remarried, and his stepmother and father were often quarrelsome because of him.
I thought I could get maternal love from my father that I had never experienced before, but I didn’t expect that even my father’s love would be lost in the end...
Coupled with strict tutoring, Zack, who is naturally longing for freedom, has the idea of escaping, so he chose to leave home and live alone.
But escaping is only a short carnival, after the carnival, we still have to face the loneliness of reality.
Just like the beginning of the article, all the partners gathered on the roof of Zack's house to celebrate. The first night everyone was cheering together, but the next morning, people went to the building.
At this time, looking at the same scene in this different atmosphere, the silence after the carnival even seemed a bit bleak...
The same is true for Zack after escaping from the family. Maybe he was happy at the beginning, but bad problems followed one after another...
He and his girlfriend Nina soon had their own baby.
It is said that children will make their parents mature , and it is true.
Zack, a new father, has limited abilities, but is doing his best to create the best life for his son.
He is no longer the former Zack who is desperate for freedom. He works hard and spends all his free time taking care of the children.
Even, he will be anxious because he is afraid that he will not be able to give his children the best life.
But the shadow of childhood seemed unwilling to leave him.
Like his girlfriend, Nina, who grew up in an unfortunate family, she never felt the care of her family since she was a child.
In Nina's own words, she crazily desires to be loved.
Love is supposed to give and give to each other, so the two who both desire to be loved are destined to not last long.
After the child was born, under the tremendous pressure of life, quarreling became commonplace for the two of them.
At the beginning, Zack would take care of the children after arguing, but with the accumulation of this negative emotion, he gradually became addicted to alcohol, and even after getting drunk, he would do something to Nina.
Finally, after he was deceived by his business partners, he chose to escape completely, leaving his children to go to another city.
At this point, his life has completely fallen to the bottom...
Facing Liu Bing ’s question, he said:
There are some people who can transform negative experiences into positive energy, but they are not.
When he finds that he is depressed, he hopes that the worse things are, the better, the kind that is so bad that he can die.
From him, the detective seemed to see the shadow of Stewart in [Rewind Life]. The two men are so alike.
In the face of negative emotions, they did not control them in time, but let this emotions act recklessly.
But even so, they always have a kind heart...
Finally, facing the camera, Zack finally said his true thoughts:
I don't want my kids to fail like me when they grow up
I can't think about the reason
I need to struggle to live because I suck
This is why i drink
I just want to hide, I just want to escape
I feel oppressed and desperate
I know I am my enemy, it feels terrible
Every decision you make makes your life worse
But there is nowhere to escape
Seeing Zack who was once invincible choked and admitted his failure, worried about his son's growth, it made people feel distressed.
Even though his own fall led to the destruction of life, his childhood experience must be the root cause of his fall.
Parental divorce, domestic violence, this kind of factor is like a kind of inherited bad luck , from Zack's parents, to himself, and even his next generation...
In this way, the lives of several generations have been changed, but fortunately, Zack is still carrying out self-salvation at this time...
Keire, who grew up under domestic violence, is the most distressing existence in the film.
Keire is the person Zack says can turn negative experiences into positive energy , and he always has the most sincere smile on his face.
He would cheer because his friend completed a difficult skateboarding action.
Will be like a fool because it is Thursday without going to work.
If you don't understand his experience, no one can see the sadness behind his smile.
After his parents separated, he followed his father.
His father is a carpenter, hoping that he can inherit his father's work, if he does not obey, a severe beating will follow .
After a quarrel and even a big fight between the father and son, Keire chose to leave his father and moved out.
In his self-report, he remembered the last words he and his father said was "I hate you".
Although his childhood was filled with the shadow of his father's violence, at this time, when he mentioned his father's death, we can clearly feel his heart is full of guilt.
Although his childhood experience has made him full of violence, he has always been kind.
He even chose to forgive his father who had left a huge shadow on him .
When talking about his father now, in addition to his guilt for his father, his heart is also the fond memories that his father brought to him.
He will remember that it was his father's violent beating, so that he never stole anything again.
Will remember his father's enlightenment on his black identity.
Even, part of the reason why he played skateboarding so hard at the beginning was to prove to his father that one day he could proudly say to his father:
Look! I am not wasting time!
In the end, he cried with joy when he found his father's tombstone, which made the detective cry like a dog.
Unfortunately , he didn't know how important his father was to him until his father died.
As he said in the last conversation with Liu Bing:
Keire:
Sometimes I am angry with skateboarding, really angry
But at the end of the day, I will fall in love with it again
Liu Bing:
But it will hurt you
Keire:
Yes my dad is the same
But i love him till death
This kind of Keire is really love and heartache, because he really bears too much.
The identity of the black, the bottom line, the separation of parents, domestic violence ...has been accompanied by his growth...
But fortunately, his Three Views that grew up in this environment turned out to be surprisingly upright, and he never let his life go so bad.
On the contrary, he has been working hard to manage his own life, and he has always had a yearning for life.
He will work hard, even if he is just a dishwasher.
He has always known that the place he lives now is like a cage to him, deeply trapping him.
He didn't dare to take this step before, because he knew that his abilities were not enough to support him changing to another city.
After working hard step by step, he finally took this step and moved towards his brand new life.
Xiao Tan believes that life will never fail people who work hard, and Keire's beautiful life has just begun...
Liu Bing, who grew up under domestic violence stepfather, is the director of the film.
Liu Bing is the director of this documentary, so there are relatively few shots about him in the film.
He moved with his mother to Rockford when he was eight or nine years old , where his mother met his later stepfather.
Soon after, his mother and stepfather got married, and his nightmarish life began.
When I was alone with my stepfather for the first time, he was severely beaten by his stepfather.
Since then, being beaten has become his daily life, so he also began his own "escape."
About his story, the film is more from the perspective of the skateboard shop owner, younger brother, and mother .
In the eyes of the skateboard shop owner, he is the kid who has been silent in the corner.
Domestic violence caused his introverted personality, and even the skateboard shop owner once thought he was gay.
From the perspective of his half-brother and mother, we can understand:
It turns out that in this family, he is not the only person experiencing domestic violence , and his brother and mother have been beaten by his stepfather more than once.
In this way, the violence of one person led to three dilapidated lives.
Even now that the time has passed, even his stepfather has passed away.
But the harm the stepfather caused to everyone in this family has become a scar that can never be lifted...
Just like Liu Bing himself said, thinking about it now, he still shivered and anxious.
And this became the reason why he made this documentary.
He wants to be fair to all people who have similar experiences like him!
He has to find a reason for everyone to persevere!
It turns out that he did it!
As Keire said in the film, the shooting of this documentary is like a free psychological treatment for them, and a salvation for their souls.
In this process,
Zack's ups and downs rekindled hope for life.
Keire not only understood his father's love, eased the relationship with his family, but also found his direction in life.
And this is a salvation to the soul for us in front of the screen?
Although not everyone has experienced an unfortunate childhood like them, but whose youth is not sour!
I believe everyone has felt this way before:
We have grown up, but it doesn’t feel good...
However, just like Liu Bing’s original intention to make this documentary:
We need to move forward, not live in the past...
It is reported that this [Skate Boy] has declared the best documentary for this year's Oscar.
The little explorer said boldly:
"If the Little Golden Guy doesn't give it this year, then Oscar is really blind!"
Its significance has far exceeded the intuitive experience of a documentary.
Externally, it warns the world;
Internally, it heals life!
