The Soldier’s Song is my favorite Soviet movie. Some people might say that Yan Nanfei is more classic, but I like the Soldier’s Song better. I like the light brushstrokes, the fresh tone, the warm mood, and the love that speaks but ends. There is a faint sadness hidden in the tranquility. I cry every time I look at it, because I know that everything that is beautiful is in the past. Alyosha will never come back again...
I shed tears every time I see the end. Mother has been standing by the road in front of the village silently waiting for the return of her son. No matter how many years in the past, I always look forward to seeing my son again. I really don’t understand why anyone watched this. I laughed during a movie?! I often think that Shura didn’t know Alyosha’s whereabouts until after the war. When they parted in a hurry, they didn’t even have time to exchange contact information and addresses. Perhaps Shura was still searching for Alyosha’s whereabouts until many years after the war, and even saddened by not being able to find her. Maybe she would secretly blame Alyosha for not looking for her anymore, perhaps he would spend a lifetime remembering it. The momentary feelings in this turbulent era, and in my heart, I silently wish the other person the happiness of his own, but I don’t know that Alyosha is no longer there....
