The troubles of young Phil

Gloria is a woman who sleeps exhaustedly by his side in embroidered red satin pajamas at night. Gloria never regarded him as a child who needs to be taken care of. What to say, comforting him is just a nightmare, teaching him to find a high-quality tombstone and say goodbye to the dead. With such a true temperament woman, Phil really likes her from the bottom of his heart. Love regardless of age, I think Phil simply likes Gloria with all his heart. He still doesn't know what physical desires are, and he doesn't have such desires yet.

I personally think that when Cassavetes wrote about Phil asking Gloria if he wanted to be his mother, he was putting a smoke bomb on the face, as if he was going to stage a mother-child relationship. But it refers to the common Oedipus complex in the relationship between men and women. At the end of the film, when Gloria was negotiating with his ex-lover, the ex-lover also said that every woman is a mother.
