"Still Life" (Still Life) is a feature film directed by Jia Zhangke and starring Zhao Tao, Han Sanming and others. The film was released in 2006. The film tells the story of coal miner Han Sanming and female nurse Shen Hong from Shanxi to Fengjie, Chongqing. They find their ex-wife who has been away for 16 years and their husband who has been away for two years.
The protagonist did not deliberately preach to the audience, but showed his inner heart through the language of the lens. With the eyes of Han Sanming, the people in the Three Gorges area are self-adjusting in the face of a new life. The rivers and lakes are calm and peaceful. The smooth and plain style of the film is quite pleasing to the eye. Even foreign audiences who do not understand the background of the Three Gorges Project can feel the calm and flowing emotions. In addition to its record charm, it is also a profound and plot-rich, sensible and emotional work.
Jia Zhangke’s movies seem to like to use songs to add a sense of the times, and broadcast elements are often used. The broadcast content can be said to truly reflect that era, but what is the role of the two songs the children sing? Is it precocious, or does it reflect that the people at the bottom listen to popular culture? But it makes people smile knowingly.
Do you know, this world is no longer suitable for us now, because we are too nostalgic.
